Safe Tonight - Chapter 8

"Bryant," she gasped as she backed away. The seconds slowly crept by as he stood in front of her, overpowering her in mental strenght.

"Is that all I get?" Bryant asked as he stepped towards her.

"Listen," Bridget started as she backed into the couch, "we need to talk..."

"Shhh," Bryant replied as he put one large finger to his lips. "No talk. We're just going to forget about this whole thing. We will start over."

"No we won't!" Bridget raised her voice, pointing a finger at him.

With that, Bryant lunged at her, pinning her on her floral-print couch. "No, Bryant, No!" she screamed with all her might.

"This is what you get for being a bad girl," he whispered to her as he ripped her blue shirt off her back. Bridget knew she couldn't lift him off, she tried with all her muscles in her body, but it did nothing to relieve her of this vendictive beast.

Now, all Bridget could do was scream until a giant hand silenced her. Bryant was undoing his belt and pulling down his jeans. "Don't lie to yourself," Bryant snickered, caressing her face, "You know you like it."

Bridget's vision became hazy as she peered at Jared. He had a peaceful but worried look on his ace as he peered through his playpen at his fallen sister. They both felt helpless. "Please," Bridget pleaded hoarsely, slightly turning towards Bryant, "Don't do this in front of the baby." But Bryant ignored her plead and continued to roughly undo her sweatpants.

It was over quicker than it started and before Ridge could comprehend, Bryant was out the door. She sat up, only in her bra and panties. She looked around to see if she was still in her life, because that experience took her out of this world. She covered herself with her arms and screamed until someone came.

"I really think we need to talk, Bridget," her mother told her as the police oficer filed a report. Carmen placed Bridget's hot coco next to her on the counter

"Yeah," Bridget agreed, wiping her nose with the black sweatshirt she had on.

"Why didn't you tell me about this sicko?" Carmen asked simpathetically.

"Well," Ridge started, "He wasn't a sicko when I first started dating him. He was very sweet and kind. After a while, he became possesive and demanding. One night when I was watching a movie with him, he tried touching me...down there. It didn't feel right, so I told him to stop. He...tried to rape me, Mom, and I ran out of the house and this other guy, Frankie, took me in and calmed me down..."

"This..." Carmen stated as she stood up, "is alot for a mother to comprehend. How come you didn't talk to me about..." Bridget stared up at her, tears frosting her eyes. "I mean," Carmen continuted as she sat down and took Ridge's hand, "I know it's been tough around here. Tom left us, baby. I've been doing my best. I put my life, my career on hold for.."

"Mom," Bridget interruped, "I know this, all this, I live here too. I didn't want to bother you wth it. I don't seem very important to you..."

"Now listen here," Carem replied sternly, "I may not always thank you, but I thank the Lord every day for blessing me with two beautiful angels. I want you to know that I love you and that, if you'd let me, I want us to become what mothers and daughters should be, close and good friends."

"I'm so relieved to hear you say that," Bridget cried as they embraced each other.

"Excuse me, ma'am?" Officer Sherman said, "I think you need to know this."

"What?" Carmen anticipated.

"This Bryant Knolls had been arrested 4 times for sexual assault and had been convicted of statitory rape. With your case, we should be able to send him to jail."

"Thank god," Bridget gasped. She hoped the worst was over.
