All the Z Fighters can sense the energy of Frieza and his father, King Cold, approaching the planet Earth. Frieza has been repaired by his father using robotic parts and he looks sort of like a cyborg. Everyone prepares for the arrival of these two terrible tyrants. They're all worried since Goku hasn't arrived yet. Frieza, King Cold, and their henchmen encounter a mysterious teenager with a sword and the Capsule Corp. logo on the shoulder of his jacket. After talking for a few minutes, the boy turns into a Super Saiyan and makes quick work of Frieza and King Cold. Everyone else is shocked and the boy asks if they want to join him as he waits two hours for the arrival of Goku!
Well, they agree and everyone sits and waits for 2 hours. Finally, the time is up and Goku arrives in a small pod right on schedule. Goku and the boy converse in private. The boy's name is Trunks and he's from the future. He begins telling Goku a story which spawns a series of startling revelations. The first one is that Trunks' parents are Vegeta and Bulma!! (Scary, huh?) His father gave him Saiyan blood which explains why he was able to turn into a Super Saiyan and turn Frieza into cold cuts with his sword. Trunks also says he came to the past to warn Goku. Three years from now at 10:30 on the morning of May 12, two malicious Androids will appear on an island southwest of South City. In Trunks' time, the Androids have killed all of the Z Fighters. Trunks also adds that Goku dies before the battle with the Androids, due to a lethal virus that attacks the heart. Luckily, in Trunks' time, there is a cure so he gives the medicine to Goku. After Trunks leaves in the Time Capsule that transported him to the past, Goku decides not to reveal anything about Vegeta and Bulma getting married since Trunks said it will happen soon enough. Piccolo says he overheard their entire conversation and that his ears "do more than just frame my face."
So, as you imagine, our heroes undergo intense training for the next three years. Vegeta, especially, since he is training in a capsule under 400x the normal gravity. But, quickly, three years comes and goes. Our heroes head off to the island. On the island, Bulma has Baby Trunks in her arms. But the proud father is nowhere in sight. Yamcha is the first to find Androids 19 and 20. #20 drains his energy. Goku, Piccolo, Tien, and Krillin find the Androids, and Krillin takes Yamcha away so he can have a Sensu Bean. Goku turns into a Super Saiyan and fights Android 19. The virus Trunks spoke of attacks his heart during the battle and #19 almost drains his energy. Until Vegeta arrives and becomes a Super Saiyan for the first time. He kills #19 with his Big Bang attack. Piccolo decides he will be the one who finishes off Android 20.
Meanwhile, Trunks come back to the past. He can't believe that Androids 19 and 20 aren't the Androids he's been fighting in the future!! Bulma crash-lands in her ship. After Android 20 makes a hasty retreat, she explains that she saw #20's picture in a magazine and under his name, it said: DR. GERO. And Dr. Gero is the creator of the Androids. It turns out Gero created Android 19, who turned him into an Android as well! The Z Fighters follow Dr. Gero to his laboratory. They manage to catch up with him and find the lab. Dr. Gero activates the two real Androids that Trunks has been fighting in the future. Androids 17 and 18. #17 kicks off Dr. Gero's head and steps on it. Then 17 and 18 activate another bionic monster called Android 16! The three machines of destruction take off in hot pursuit of their target, Goku, who is being watched over at his house by Chi-Chi and Yamcha. Vegeta catches up with them, and Android 18 beats the snot out of him. Trunks, Piccolo, and Tien try to help but they go down easily. Krillin tries to pursuade the three Androids not to go after Goku, but they ignore him. Before they leave, #18 kisses Krillin.
Krillin revives everyone with Sensu Beans and Piccolo flies off to Kami's lookout in a last ditch effort to stop the Androids. He asks if Kami wants to fuse and become one again...
On to the Cell Saga...
