However: "Yesstory is a two-disc distillation of the four-disc Yesyears, omitting the rarities to function as a generous collection of hits over the years. By keeping everything in chronological order, a story does actually emerge: ambitious young men reworking classics in their own idiom become master storytellers themselves, suffer from overinflation, and condense their art into tight, crisp parcels. Of course, Classic Yes covered the best parts already, so in the retelling the tale gets longer but not necessarily better. One could argue that the disc lingers a bit long on their early years (although adding the nonalbum “Something’s Coming” is a nice touch) and eats up valuable real estate with an entire album side of Tales From Topographic Oceans, but otherwise this balances their oeuvre as best as can be expected. Yesyears and Yesstory also marked the digitally mastered debut of these songs (their entire catalog wasn’t remastered and re-released until 1994), which was enough of an incentive for fans to check these out. However, the picture sleeve that comes with Yesstory isn’t that informative, and Yes themselves had no input into the final product.
