This story could not have been written without a lot of people helping me. In general, the staff of volunteers at the American-Canadian Genealogical Society (ACGS) in Manchester, NH have been great but I would like to single out Pauly Labbe who opened the library for me during my annual treks to New England, as well as Roger Casavant gave my brother the Lesperance line back to Corporal Jean then got me hooked into this business. Thanks also to: Dominique Ritchot of Montreal, a genealogist who never gives up on the tough ones; Daniel Olivier, director at Salle Gagnon in Montreal's Central Library who knew exactly where to find what I needed; Betty Brelia, Secretary at the St. John the Baptist Church in Keeseville, NY who spent many hours in the church records getting the Lesperance names; Marcel Lesperance, a half-cousin from St. Esprit, Quebec and Denis Charest of the Genealogical Society of Lanaudiere who unraveled the descendants of the corporal's second marriage; several American cousins, one 99 years old living today in Keeseville, who helped sort out some of the family's history in the 20th century; and Andre Masset who was my contact in France.
