On Your Own
Part 7

Still don't own the characters. This idea was Gauriel's and I thank her and all the other people over at 3rdwatch.net that thought I could pull this off!

Faith met Reyes in the hallway of the station house. "Sergeant, you got a minute?"
Reyes nodded. "What's up Yokas?"
She looked around the busy hallway, and hooked her thumb over her shoulder. "Can we talk in private?"
"Yeah sure." The two women walked into an office, and Faith shut the door behind them. "So?"
"I've been doing a lot of thinking the last few days. I mean I sit in the squad car all day listening to Bosco, and stuff." Faith shifted nervously. "I was wondering if maybe we could get some unmarked cars, and maybe me, Sully and Davis could go plain clothes?" Reyes's eyes narrowed, and she looked like she was going to say something. "Hear me out. We sit in a squad car and we are always a few blocks away from Bosco. These people aren't stupid. They're gonna catch on if there's always cops around. I really think we need to do something else. If we're not careful we could really get Bosco into a world of trouble. Plus this way we could go back to working out of the 5-5. I think we raise too many questions with us working out of here. We go back to the 5-5 maybe the cops that are curious will think that our little operation is over."
Reyes nodded. "I'll see what I can do."
"Really?" Faith asked in shock.
"Yeah. You're right. It's a good idea. I'll talk to lieu."

Bosco slowly opened his eyes. He was lying on his stomach sprawled out across his mattress. As his senses awakened he started to feel the pain. In his neck, his back, his chest, his arm, his legs. He groaned as he rolled onto his back, taking in a sharp breath as his back connected with the mattress. Had it really been that long since he'd last worked out that hard?
When he was out of bed he stretched his sore muscles, and then went about his normal routine of making breakfast. Today it was coffee, and a bagel. He took the cream cheese out of the fridge, and looked at it with great thought. Then he turned his attention to the bagel that sat on the counter. Feeling too lazy to slice the bagel and spread the cream cheese he put the container back into the fridge. Bosco took the plain, dry bagel and his mug of coffee into the living room.
*****
He stood by the bathroom sink as he got his razor and shaving cream ready. The goatee he was growing was driving him nuts, and it was time to shave it off. Bosco looked into the mirror for the first time. To his surprise there were dark purple bruises all around his neck.
"Shit," he mumbled. "Killer really did a number on my neck."
*****
Faith sat in her RMP down the street from Bosco's apartment once again listening to everything going on around Bosco. Reyes had briefed her this morning about Bosco's encounter with Killer the previous night. Faith was trying her best not to worry, but that was difficult.
*****
Bosco slowly made his way to work. He was hoping by the time he got there his muscles would have loosened up. No such luck. About a block away from the garage he reached up to make sure he remembered to put in his earpiece. The listening device didn't bother him as much as it had a couple of days ago. Bosco figured his ear must have stretched or something.
When he walked in the garage there was a short, overweight, bald guy standing by the workbench. "Hey," he the man acknowledged Bosco with a wave of his pudgy hand that tightly clinched a doughnut. "You must be the new guy."
Bosco nodded. "Yup that's me."
"I'm Jason."
Bosco chuckled softly. "You're Jason?" he asked as he raised his eyebrows.
The guy nodded as he took a large bite out of the doughnut; raspberry filling squirting onto the man's cheeks. "Yeah. Why?"
"Cause I'm the other Jason." Bosco looked around. "I can't believe old man Fee thought he'd get the two of us mixed up," he laughed. "I mean look at you." Bosco held his hands out toward the man for emphasis. "And, well, look at me."
The bald, short, overweight Jason laughed dryly then quickly stopped. "Funny," he said coldly.
Bosco just shook his head, and started to walk toward his work area. He came to a stop in front of the other Jason, and pointed at his face. "Wipe your face." The man pulled the bottom of his work shirt up, and dabbed out his mouth. Bosco cringed at the sight of the other man's beer belly.
Park came in a few minutes later. "Jase what's up?!"
Bosco turned to greet him. "Not much." He nodded toward Jason who was now munching on a powdered doughnut. "I met tubby."
"Oh I bet you two will get along famously." Park and Bosco laughed. Bosco winced as he turned his head too fast. His coworker noticed the bruising. "Damn Jase. What happened to your neck?"
"What happened to my neck? Your friend Killer happened to my neck, or had you forgotten?"
"Man that looks bad."
"Well I'm pretty sure it feels worse than it looks. And if anybody asks, the bruises are from my girlfriend, not some big ass brut. We'll just tell 'em she bites. She likes it rough," Bosco grinned.
****
Faith groaned and rolled her eyes.
****
"Yeah yeah, whatever man."
Bosco reached down to pick up a bolt that had fallen off the workbench. He put his hand on his back. "I think he threw my back out of whack too."
"Nah, you're just getting old."
*****
It was around one o'clock when Faith got a call on her radio telling her to call her command officer. "Wonder what that's all about?" she asked aloud as she picked up her cell phone, and dialed in. "This is Officer Yokas."
"Yeah Yokas. Bring in Boscorelli."
"What?!"
"Make up some charge, and arrest him. Cuff him. Bring him in, and make a big production of it we need to talk to him."
"Sure thing." Faith hung up the phone, and let out a deep breath as she looked over at the garage where Bosco was sitting outside with his coworkers. She couldn't help but smile. She was going to get to arrest Bosco.
*****
Bosco put his bottle of Mountain Dew on the ground. His lunch break was almost over, but things at the shop were pretty slow today so there wasn't really a need to rush. He tipped his chair back on its back legs and leaned against the outer wall of the building. The sound of a siren made him drop the front feet of the chair back to the ground.
He watched as an NYPD squad car stopped quickly in front of him and his co-workers. Quickly he glanced over at Park, and they both shrugged. Bosco watched as Faith hopped out of the car, and he tried to wipe away any look that may give away the fact that he knew her.
"Jason Muniz?"
He scoffed. "What's it to you?"
"You're under arrest."
"Arrest? For what? I didn't do anything," he stated calmly.
"That's what you think. Now get your ass up!" He stood up a little too slowly for Faith's liking. She grabbed him by the arm and manhandled him toward the car. She was really having a good time with this. "Put you hands on the hood and spread 'em."
Bosco laughed, and looked at her with a cocky grin on his face. "Honey if you wanna piece of this all you have to do is ask." He winked at her, and then turned to look at Park who sat watching everything unfold. When Bosco turned his head he stood up slightly, and Faith quickly pushed his head down toward the hood of the vehicle. The movement caught him off guard and his cheek impacted hard with the hood of the car. "Ow shit!"
"That'll teach you to show some respect." Faith grabbed his hands, and pulled them behind his back unceremoniously slapping handcuffs around his wrists.
As Faith led Bosco toward the backseat of the RMP Mr. Fee came out of building. "Jay-son, What is happening?"
"Don't worry Mr. Fee. She ain't got nothin' on me." Bosco said as he turned to his employer. "I'll be here tomorrow." Faith grabbed him roughly, and pushed him into the backseat.
*****
"Gawd Faith! I think you broke my cheekbone!"
She looked into the rearview mirror. "Well, you pissed me off!"
"Yeah, but you didn't have to slam my face into the hood of the car!"
"I didn't mean to Bosco, so for what it's worth I'm sorry."
He shifted in the seat trying to get comfortable. Having his hands cuffed behind his back was not very comfortable. "So what's going on?"
She shrugged. "I have no idea. They just told me to bring you in."
"Did they tell you that excessive force was necessary?" he mumbled.
They stopped at a stop sign, and Faith turned in her seat to look at him. "Man Bos. Your cheek is really red."
"Yeah, and it hurts like hell." They continued toward the station house in silence. When he stood up as he got out of the car he was face to face with Faith. "It's good to see you Faith," he said softly as he smiled.
"It's good to see you too." She grabbed his arm. "Now come on."
*****
Faith unlocked the handcuffs from Bosco's wrists, and reattached them to her duty belt. Bosco rubbed his wrists as he sat down at the table in the interrogation room. "So you really don't know what this is about?"
She shook her head. "No idea." Faith sat down next to him, and took his chin in her hand turning his face so she could take a look at his cheek. "It's looks a little swollen," she informed him.
"Great," he mumbled. "I'm sure it will bruise, and it'll match my neck pretty good." As gently as possible she ran her thumb over his cheek, and he hissed. "Oww Faith quit!"
"I'm gonna go get you some ice for that." She stood up. "Don't go anywhere. You're supposed to be in police custody."
A few minutes later Faith returned with a bag full of ice for his cheek, and Sergeants Reyes and Cruz followed her into the interrogation room. Faith handed him the ice, and took a seat next to him. Reyes walked over to the corner of the room. She didn't look real happy, and Cruz sat down on the table mere inches from Bosco; a smirk on her face.
"I'm taking over this operation," Cruz told them point blank.
"What?" Bosco asked. "What about Sergeant Reyes?"
Reyes turned to answer, but Cruz answered instead. "That doesn't concern you Boscorelli. You just get the job done. You hear me?!"
"Yeah, yeah I hear you," he said as he leaned back in his chair trying to create a little space between himself and the sergeant.
"So what does this mean for the operation as a whole?" Faith asked quietly.
"Nothing changes. I'm just the contact from now on." Cruz looked back at Bosco as she slid off the table. "Don't blow this for me Boscorelli."
He watched as Cruz left the room, and then he looked at Reyes. "And I thought you were wound a little tight."
Reyes looked from Faith to Bosco. "You ain't seen nothin' yet 'minute man'," she grinned.
"So what happened?" Bosco wondered aloud. "How come you aren't on this anymore?"
"Turns out Cruz went over my head. Said she had more experience with drug rings, and convinced the captain that she could do better." Reyes headed for the door. "Oh, and Yokas. I talked to the lieutenant and you got it. Plain clothes and unmarked cars starting tomorrow."
"Thanks Sarge."
Bosco and Faith watched her leave. "Plain clothes and unmarked cars? Welcome to ACU Faith," Bosco grinned.
"Thanks," she smiled. "I figured it'd be safer for you. We don't want these guys to catch on to the fact that there's always a cop less than a hundred yards from you."
"Good thinkin' Faith," he put the ice pack down on the table, and turned his face. "How's it look?"
"Not real good. I really am sorry."
"Man, it was bad enough getting strangled by a huge Chinese man named Killer. But now I got my ass kicked by a girl!"
