Faith left the Pepto Bismol bottle on the sink, and the
medicine cabinet wide open. As she slowly walked back into Bosco's bedroom she
read some of the information on the label.
Maurice Boscorelli. Dr. Parker. One pill to be taken at
night when having difficulty sleeping. Quantity 35. No refills.
She turned the bottle sideways to read the blue sticker. It
warned not to operate any heavy equipment after taking the pills. There was a
bright yellow sticker next to it that said something to the affect that the
pills could become addictive if taken over a period of time.
Faith stopped in the doorway of Bosco's room, and looked at
him writhing in pain. He was obviously having another stomach cramp. Bosco
didn't notice her standing there.
Not sure what to do she entered the room with the empty
pill bottle in her closed hand. His cramp subsided, and he was able to somewhat
relax into the comfort of his mattress. He finally noticed her standing there.
"Did you find anything?" he asked in a soft voice. She nodded. "Gawd
I hope it helps." He started to sit up. His hand wrapped around his torso.
Faith just stared at him. "What? What's wrong?"
Without a word she held her hand out to him, and opened her
fist so he could see the bottle. His eyes grew wide with fear, and he quickly
tried to think of something to tell her. "I dumped 'em."
"Try again," she said coldly.
He sighed. "Come on Faith," he shook his head
slowly. "Not tonight OK?"
She could see the worried expression on his face, and
noticed that his whole body was shaking now. Faith shook her head in disbelief,
and briefly looked up at the ceiling as she tried to gain control of her
emotions. "I can't believe I didn't see it," she said in bewilderment.
"How could I not see it?" she asked calmly.
"Faith…I can explain—"
Her hand shot up in the air to cut off his words. "I
don't wanna hear your excuses Bosco!" Her control had not lasted. She
turned, and walked out of his room.
He got out of bed as quickly as he could, and fought off
the dizziness as he followed her. "Faith, I had to," his voice full of
anguish. "I couldn't make them stop."
She quickly turned around. Her eyes shoot daggers at him.
"They were *dreams* Bosco. *Nightmares*! They weren't *real*!"
"But I was hurting you. I didn't want to hurt
you!"
"And you don't think this," she held up the
prescription bottle she still held. "You don't think *this* isn't hurting
me?!"
"I…Faith…I needed something. I didn't know what else—"
"Counseling Bosco! That was what the counseling was
for!"
"But it didn't work," he said in a whisper as he
hung his head.
"I'm not falling for the innocent act Bosco! I did it
with Fred, but I'll be *damned* if I'm gonna
do it again!" As she turned, and reached for the doorknob she felt a tear
slide down her face, but she refused to acknowledge it. She threw open the door,
and slammed it behind her.
"Faith! Faith, don't leave me!"
