Dragon Eyes
Van and Hitomi are the main couple in Escaflowne, though it takes the whole series for them to get together. Though Hitomi had a humongous crush on Allen in Gaea and Amano in her home world, Van was the one she really loved along though she doesn't realize it. Better late than never, right? Van's best friend, cat-girl Merle thinks she's in love with him and considers Hitomi a rival, further complicating matters, though Van only views her as a little sister. In the end, they declare their feelings for eachother, only to go their separate ways. Sucks, doesn't it? But they will one day meet again, if only in fanfiction.
This is my favorite couple in the entire show, as it is of many people, though there are also others who want to keep Van to themselves.
