My husband, Frank, and I have had Alaskan Malamutes for over 19 years and now, Alaskan Huskies for about nine years.
Our first Mal, Keannu , was meant to be a companion only for us and turned out to be so much more. Besides being the light of our lives, he also became our first and only Therapy Dog, Canine Good Citizen, a sled dog and a great team leader. He is the reason we stuck with this breed all this time. He enjoyed a little over 13 years with us and is missed each and every day.
About nine years ago I started showing our Mals, as well as still sledding, weightpulling, and devoting our lives to them here at Abenaki Malamute kennels. Our very first litter was born seven years ago and we will do an occasional breeding here and there, as we see fit.
