About Me

(BEGIN SARCASM)

Name: Erin "Earthy" Ireland

Nicknames: to some I'm Er-Bear, to others I'm Earthybitch or Phroovisgirl. I have also acquired the pseudonym Aeudesia, Aeudie for short. Oliver is a nice name too, though it's not mine. Some variation of the above or simply "Hey Er" will do.

Date on which the planet was graced with my humble presence: July 14, 1982

Favorite Authors: Margaret Atwood, Alice Munro, Gabriel Marcia Marquez, Woody Guthrie, and Lucy Maud Montgomery

Favorite Song For the Time Being: "The River" - Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen

Favorite Foods: Grilled cheese, spaghetti, root beer, and raisins out of a little box

Music I Listen To: I can't possibly list every kind of music I like... mostly a variety of folk, rock, alternative, and jazz. You name 'em, I'm either listening to 'em now or I'll check 'em out right away. For the most part, I'm into anything I can sing to. In my cd player recently (in no particular order): "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack, Great Big Sea, the Nields, Weezer, and Dave Matheson. Ask me about my fixation with Woody Guthrie; I've got lots to say.

Music I Play: I started playing violin in third grade, decided that I like to play fiddle music, and began collecting instruments. Now I primarily play guitar, but I also can play mandolin, harmonica, lap dulcimer, didgeridoo, string bass, and various simple instruments (tin whistle, washboard, spoons, etc). I've been playing in the String Band at Geneseo for a while now and I am having great fun.

Music I See: I thrive on boredom because it forces me to find new and interesting things to do. Live music seems to be my drug of choice for filling the void, so I'm usually at some concert, open mic, or folk festival whenever there's an event within a hundred mile radius (or five hundred if it's super-important).

My Radio Show: I have a radio show called "Just Folkin' Around" on WALF 89.7 FM in Alfred, NY. It's on Tuesdays from noon to 2pm. Everybody listen and call in lots of requests. You can also listen at www.walfradio.org.

School: When I'm not making the folk festival circuit, I'm a student at Alfred University's School of Art and Design. I just transferred there this semester, so I'm still trying to explore new things until I decide which medium I want to concentrate on.

Books: I thrive on unusual books. Any suggestions are welcome, since my "to read" pile is gradually decreasing to the size of two small rooms. Most recent book I've read: "A Hell of A Life" by Maureen Stapleton.

Dreams: My biggest dream is to ride freight trains across the country with my guitar. Or to live out of my van with nothing but music and crackers to keep me alive. If I never do another thing afterward, I will have lived more than everyone on this campus combined.

Contact: If I haven't bored you to death yet, contact me so I can finish you off properly. phroovisgirl@hotmail.com. Use it.
