LIE/Cross Island Interchange Reconstruction 2001
Photo Gallery: LIE

east
Two views of the fast changing scene at the Long Island Expressway/Cross Island Parkway interchange, as recorded in May 2001. Above, facing east on the LIE and below, looking north from the Cross Island. Eastbound expressway traffic has been rerouted onto a temporary span that may end up carrying a service road extension. Westbounders are now refugees on the old eastbound lanes, as the westbound side has been obliterated. Below, the already treacherous and accident prone ramp from the Cross Island to the eastbound LIE is even worse now in its temporarily constricted state, although one aim of this project is supposedly to improve such deficiencies.
