OnlineHost: Copyright 1995 Oldsmobile; licensed to America Online, Inc.

OnlineHost: Your host tonight is CSEmcee7 (JackDL)

OnlineHost: With strong beauty and undeniable talent, Julianna Margulies is gaining recognition for her portrayal of Nurse Carole Hathaway in the critically acclaimed new series "ER." Created by Michael Crichton, "ER" is the highest rated new drama series since 1976.

OnlineHost: Born and raised in both New York and England, Margulies never intended to become an actress. However, during her first year at Sarah Lawrence College, she studied theater as a creative outlet and soon found herself cast in numerous productions.

OnlineHost: In college, Margulies appeared in such plays as "The Lover," "Balm and Gilead," "Three Hand Solitaire," "In the Boom Boom Room," and "Hooters." This extensive experience paved the way for a successful theater career and she has starred in "The Substance of Fire," "At Home," "Fefu and Her Friends," "Living Expenses," "Dan Drift," and "Book of Names."

OnlineHost: Margulies' talent also extends to television and film. She appeared in the television shows "Homicide," "Law and Order" and "Philly Heat." In addition, Margulies appeared in Steven Segal's feature film "Out For Justice."

OnlineHost: Margulies' twist of fate arose last year when she was visiting a friend in Los Angeles and auditioned for a guest-starring role in the pilot episode of "ER." Upon returning to New York to continue work on "Homicide," Margulies learned she had gotten a part as a series regular and re- located to Los Angeles this past July. Please welcome Julianna to Center Stage.

CSEMCEE7: Welcome to Celebrity Circle, Ms. Margulies!

Mjulianna: Thank you!

CSEMCEE7: MR111VR would like to know:

Question: What is it like to be on the best new drama ?

Mjulianna: It's great! I feel very lucky.

CSEMCEE7: ASuppa809 asks:

Question: Hi, I'm Amanda Suppa, I was wondering if you get along with the rest of the cast of ER, and who has been there for you the most like your best friend?

Mjulianna: Yes I get along with everybody, all the cast. And they've all been there for me at different times.

CSEMCEE7: LindsayTa asks:

Question: Hi, Julianna! Love the show! And congrats on the Emmy! You deserved it! OK, the question: Can we expect to see a Ross-Hathaway relationship to develop this season? (please say yes)!

Mjulianna: Thank you very much! Eventually, on the show you will see a Ross-Hathaway relationship but a lot of things have to change before that will happen.

CSEMCEE7: LMaclay would like to know:

Question: Julianna, do you guys have as much fun as it appears? Everyone seems so wonderful!

Mjulianna: Absolutely!

CSEMCEE7: LANGHOUSE asks:

Question: Are you able to work with the writers concerning your character?

Mjulianna: Yes. I am. Most of the time I don't need to work with them because they're such wonderful writers. But on the rare occasion that I don't like what they've written, I'm welcome to come into their offices and work with them.

CSEMCEE7: VaOogie would like to know:

Question: Do you have many ER consultants to make the show realistic?

Mjulianna: Yes. We have 2 technical advisors that are ER doctors and in every trauma scene that we have all the nurses besides myself and the other actors that portray nurses are real nurses.

CSEMCEE7: LCole6378 asks:

Question: Have you learned anything from being on ER that you could use in real life? (medically)

Mjulianna: Just how to take a pulse probably would be my best met.

CSEMCEE7: MarcEdito asks:

Question: Julianna, do you feel you've changed many viewers' outlook on nurses? Congrats on your big win!

Mjulianna: Thank you! I hope, if anything, that I've given nurses more of a positive image in that my character's very strong in what she does. That would be a wonderful thing!

CSEMCEE7: Dotocon would like to know:

Question: I think that you are terrific in your role on ER. Do you find it very difficult to make it appear as though all of the medical jargon comes naturally?

Mjulianna: Thank you. In the beginning it was very difficult because the medical jargon was like another language, but now it's like second nature to me. So no, it's not difficult for me.

CSEMCEE7: Reno 58 asks:

Question: What is it like working with George Clooney? Is he as gorgeous in person as on TV?

Mjulianna: It's great working with George and he's probably better looking in person!

CSEMCEE7: Lefty1718 would like to know:

Question: Hey you are really great on ER. Are you planning on doing any movies any time soon?

Mjulianna: Thank you! Right now I'm in a lot of negotiations and I'm meeting with many studios to talk about what movies I'm going to do while on my hiatus next year.

CSEMCEE7: MarcEdito asks:

Question: Julianna, I'd really like to know what your first reaction was when your name was announced on Emmy night! Thanks!

Mjulianna: I didn't know what to do! I didn't know if the 30 seconds they gave me was part of the walking up to the podium and talking or just the talking. So I didn't know if I should walk fast or slow. I got very confused!

CSEMCEE7: DaveGams1 asks:

Question: Do you have much interaction with Michael Crichton? If so, what are your thoughts about him?

Mjulianna: I don't have a lot of interaction with Michael. He comes to the set every now and then. I think he's a genius and I think he's very tall.

CSEMCEE7: PhantomJo would like to ask:

Question: Has the success of the show changed you or your life in any way?

Mjulianna: Absolutely. It definitely changed my privacy and it changed my career in the best way possible.

CSEMCEE7: HRDCEL asks:

Question: The wedding scene looked like a lot of fun...was it? and were you happy with the way that story line ran?

Mjulianna: The wedding scene was great fun, except I had to wear that wedding dress for three days and after a while it started to get uncomfortable. But in general yes, I was happy with the way the whole story line ran.

CSEMCEE7: TEDDYB322 would like to know:

Question: Is acting all its cracked up to be?

Mjulianna: That depends on what your version of cracked up to be means.

CSEMCEE7: CelineCPA would like to know:

Question: Hi, Julianna - I love your show! Are you allowed to tell what's coming up this season, or is it confidential?

Mjulianna: I prefer not telling what's coming up because I think the audience is more excited to see it than to hear about it. And most of the time we don't know what's coming up.

CSEMCEE7: Despera61 would like to know:

Question: How was working with Quinten Tarantino on the episode that he directed.

Mjulianna: It was excellent. A Lot of fun. We all learned a lot about film-making.

CSEMCEE7: Suzi zulu asks:

Question: Julianna, Did you do a lot of homework i.e., research for your role on ER when you were hire?

Mjulianna: Yes. I visited a lot of head nurses in emergency rooms. And read a lot of books on nurses.

CSEMCEE7: MarcEdito asks:

Question: Julianna, were you ever a victim of George's practical jokes? Thanks, and best of luck in Season #2!

Mjulianna: Thanks! No, I've never been a victim yet of George's practical jokes, although I'm sure any day now I will absolutely be a victim of one of his jokes.

CSEMCEE7: GuateMD would like to say:

Comment: I'm an ER doc and I wanted to say that I like the show, and your character is very accurate

Mjulianna: Wow! Thank you. Coming from someone in the medical profession that's the greatest honor!

CSEMCEE7: HNance536 asks:

Question: What was your first acting experience?

Mjulianna: I was in Kindergarten in England, I think I was 4 years old and I played the Hedge in Sleeping Beauty.

CSEMCEE7: MITLUNDO would like to know:

Question: Are the multi set up situations in the trauma rooms the most lengthy sequences to shoot?

Mjulianna: Yes.

CSEMCEE7: Southst64 asks:

Question: Did you ever expect the show ER to take off as well as it did? Also how do you think it will do this season?

Mjulianna: No, I never in my wildest dreams expected it to be this big of a hit. And I think we're going to be okay this season.

CSEMCEE7: TALL40 asks:

Question: For your wonderful guest. What are your lives' ambitions?

Mjulianna: I can say that I just hope that I can do for other people what's been done for me.

CSEMCEE7: Brigg999 would like to know:

Question: I heard that you were originally going to get "killed off" in the first episode, but they liked you so much that you stayed with the show....is that true???

Mjulianna: Yes. It is true. I was hired as guest star for the pilot who died in the second half of the pilot.

CSEMCEE7: SGKoss asks:

Question: Anthony Edwards talked about delivering the "V" baby in one of the episodes of "ER". Can you tell us another fun joke that a cast/crew member played on the rest of the group?

Mjulianna: You know what...I'm going to have to pass on that one. I can't think of one off the top of my head. Sorry!

CSEMCEE7: PsyD Mom would like to know:

Question: Julianna, what do you think about the whole "online" concept, and of the fan clubs that have sprung up?

Mjulianna: I think it's kind of great that people can talk to each other through computers, but the idea of it also scares me.

CSEMCEE7: K75s asks:

Question: Ms. Margulies, do you prefer working on the stage or in film?

Mjulianna: If I had my drothers I would be able to do both of them all the time. I think there's nothing like stage work and there's nothing like film work. They're two completely different mediums and I enjoy doing both of them.

CSEMCEE7: How many hours a day do you have to work?

Mjulianna: It depends on the schedule, but I'll give you an example. Yesterday I worked from 5:30 in the morning until 7:00 at night. That's our average day on the set of ER.

CSEMCEE7: DMHess asks:

Question: Welcome Julianna...you're doing a great job on the show. Besides ER, what's your favorite show to watch?

Mjulianna: Oooh! Thank you. I don't get to watch much TV these days. But for an hour drama it would probably be NYPD Blue and for a comedy it would probably be Seinfeld. I also really like the Larry Sanders Show.

CSEMCEE7: MELGRAGER would like to know:

Question: What had you originally attended Sarah Lawrence to study?

Mjulianna: Pretty much English literature, Art History, and Film History. But I knew I would minor in the theater arts.

CSEMCEE7: Smithie90 asks:

Question: Julianna, what are the biggest demands of being on the nation's best drama show?

Mjulianna: Concentrating on the work and not on all the paparazzi and negative press. And getting up at 4:30 in the morning!

CSEMCEE7: WHJYPD would like to know:

Question: Instead of respirators and thespian achievement, I'd like to know what music you listen to.

Mjulianna: I have a very eclectic collection of music. Anything from Latin Jazz, K.D. Lang, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Gypsy Kings...I have a kind of wide variety. I'm not in to heavy metal. But I love opera.

CSEMCEE7: VickiNDav asks:

Question: What part did you play in Out for Justice?

Mjulianna: I played the role of Rica. She was an ex-hooker trying to find a better life for herself.

CSEMCEE7: LanisR would like to know:

Question: How heavy is that Emmy?

Mjulianna: Pretty heavy!

CSEMCEE7: ToddE1059 asks:

Question: First off. Excellent show, but is it as hectic filming the show as it appears?

Mjulianna: It's more hectic than it appears.

CSEMCEE7: MoeLou96 asks:

Question: What has been your favorite thing to do on ER? Like favorite show or scene?

Mjulianna: I think my favorite scene is when I lost the little Russian girl and I go to George Clooney's house and break down and cry.

CSEMCEE7: StacyZot asks:

Question: Where did you put your Emmy Statuette??

Mjulianna: Well, right now it's on my mantelpiece in my living room. But soon it will be transferred into my den as soon as I furnish it.

CSEMCEE7: Annisa would like to know:

Question: If you could act in any other Michael Crichton story, what character and from what book would it be? Or are you even a Michael Crichton fan?

Mjulianna: Quite honestly, I haven't read many Michael Crichton books, so I couldn't give you an answer. Not to say that I'm not a fan. I think he's a really brilliant man.

CSEMCEE7: JUEGOBB would like to know:

Question: Hello I'm Tracy and was wondering if you have any tips for someone who wants to get into T.V.?

Mjulianna: Take acting classes and do a lot of theater.

CSEMCEE7: YoungJ7 asks:

Question: What ever happened to your storyline with the little Russian girl? They should have followed it through - it was a great story!

Mjulianna: They did follow it through. She wasn't able to adopt the child because she had tried to commit suicide within that year and legally it wasn't, possible.

CSEMCEE7: EWG1025 asks:

Question: Did you REALLY go to the Emmys in a school bus?

Mjulianna: Yes.

CSEMCEE7: MLewisFL asks:

Question: How many re-takes are involved in those long, continuous camera scenes?

Mjulianna: Well that depends on how may people screw up and how many times we have to do things over. They're very complicated. You might get your lines right and the camera gets it wrong, or you might get the camera right and you get the lines wrong. It all depends on the fluidity of the shot.

CSEMCEE7: Naturewks asks:

Question: Is it really difficult working as an actress on ER to make sure that the procedures you are displaying are as authentic as possible and concentrate on your characters actions as well?

Mjulianna: Yes. That's probably the most challenging thing about doing ER. A Lot of times when you're in a trauma it just feels like you're doing technical stuff and not acting at all.

CSEMCEE7: StacyZot would like to know:

Question: What color are the new uniforms going to be?

Mjulianna: Like a deep raspberry color.

CSEMCEE7: BRAXLO asks:

Question: Julianna, I love ER, your great! Do you feel that your is gaining emotional stability as time progresses. Are you happy with the development of your character?

Mjulianna: Thank you, and yes I am happy with the development of my character. She has absolutely gained a lot of stability and you'll see her in a different light this season.

CSEMCEE7: PFD HART asks:
Question: Julianna, does the show need a "choreographer" with so much movement going on at one time?

Mjulianna: Technically, yes. Dr. Joe Sachs, who is our technical advisor, actually has to choreograph each trauma scene in order for all the passes of the instruments and the actors to move correctly.

CSEMCEE7: Swimlots would like to know:

Question: Do you ever get grossed out, even when you know it's all acting and make-up?

Mjulianna: Yes. Many times.

CSEMCEE7: StacyZot asks:

Question: Loved you on Letterman's show, were you nervous?

Mjulianna: Thank you. The first time I was on Letterman I was nervous. The second time it was just plain old fun.

CSEMCEE7: Cristian1 would like to know:

Question: When I first started watching the show I thought you were one of the doctors, you had such a presence. Do you think that your character will ever have an ambition to go to medical school or become a doctor?

Mjulianna: That's actually a very good question. I myself wondered about that and asked a lot of head nurses if they had interest in becoming doctors. And every single one said absolutely not. What we do is completely different from what the doctors do. Where the doctor may be able to cure a patient, the nurse is able to care for and nurture the patient. So I don't think that Carol Hathaway will be having any medical school ambitions this season.

CSEMCEE7: SueB2442 asks:

Question: How many days of work does it take to get 1 hour of show

Mjulianna: It takes 8 business days.

CSEMCEE7: Kenny B I asks:

Question: Julianna, what % of the show is shot using the steady cam? and where in LA are your hosp. ext. shot?

Mjulianna: Probably 80% of the show is steady cam. And a lot of the external shots in LA are on the Warner Bros. lot.

CSEMCEE7: CelineCPA asks:

Question: Does the "jargon" come more naturally now because you understand what you're saying, or is it just that you've said the same thing many times?

Mjulianna: Well, it's a little bit of both. The words flow off the tongue more easily because we say them so often But I do try to understand what it is I'm saying.

CSEMCEE7: VickiNDav asks:

Question: What nationality are you? You are a very beautiful woman!

Mjulianna: Wow! Thank you very much! I'm Eastern European. I'm Austrian, Romanian, Hungarian, and Russian.

CSEMCEE7: Bakerboy32 asks:

Question: Are you married ? Just asking.

Mjulianna: No, I'm not married.
