It takes a great man
to be a good listener.
Sometimes it is a great joy just to listen to someone we love talking.
A good listenet tries to understand thoroughly what the other person is saying. In the end,
he may disagree sharply, but before he disagrees, he wants to know exactly what it is he is disagreeing with.
To talk to someone who does not listen is enough to tense the devil.
The girl who everyone thinks is homely, the boy with the odd clothes - those people have
their stories to tell, as surely as you do. And like you, they dream that someone is willing to hear.
This is to anyone. I'm writing because I need someone to talk to, someone to open myself
to. I need to be held. Yes me. Even I am not made of brick. Although I'm strong, even strong
things break down at times.
Whoever reads, I don't want sympathy or talk, I just want someone to listen.
I sit here laid back, tears are falling from my face. I'm so scared. I feel so alone, so lost,
so confused, sad. . . I realize I'm not going to have all the things I love forever.
I'm not too sure she knew what the hell I was talking about. I mean she's only a little
child and all. But she was listening, at least. If somebody at least listens, it's not too bad.
If you like it, listen to it; if not, let it alone.
The more faithfully you listen to the voice within you, the better you will hear what is
sounding outside. And only he who listens can speak.
You hear that? That's the voice of the mob, shouting to a man on a ledge, telling him to
jump. It's a very long way down. Farther than you can imagine. You listen to that voice and
you'll fall forever.
And if I didn't listen to her, she said my ear would bend too easily to other people, all
saying words that had no lasting meaning because they came from the bottom of their hearts, where
their own desires lived, a place where I could not belong.
You listen badly, and you read even worse. Except when the talk or the book is about
yourself. Then you pay careful attention.
Doubt yourself and you doubt everything you see. Judge yourself and you see judges
everywhere. But if you listen to the sound of your own voice, you can rise above doubt and
judgement, and you can see forever.
They did not listen forever.
My body lies down and I hear my own voice lying next to me.
Always try to stop talking before people stop listening.
When a man gets up to speak, people listen, then look. When a woman gets up, people look;
then if they like what they see, they listen.
Your heart isn't listening.
