"Um," That was the only thing that could come out of my mouth.
"Hi Cassie, ow are y...I mean how have you been...this is hard," Brian stammered.
"Like you think this is any easier for me?" I said, a little louder than I meant to. All eyes were on us.
"Well, you ARE the one who dumped me!"
"Don't even bring that up! I had a damn good reason for breaking up and you know it!"
"No you didn't have a good reason for breaking up! We could have made this work!"
"Like hell we could have! We'd be doing the exact same thing we are now-FIGHTING!" By this time, we were screaming and everyone was sarring at us. "If you accuse me of breakign up with you for no reason, then I'm not even going to try to talk to you!"
"OK, I'll stop accusing you, but I don't think we should talk about it here, in front of the guys and a bunch of fans. Can we meet for lunch or something tomorrow?"
"I guess. Let's meet at the Hard Rock Cafe at noon. OK with you?"
"Yeah," Brian said.
"But all I'm going to do is talk, and I'm bringing someone with me," I told my ex-boyfriend.
By this time, Jess and Sara were starring at me like I was an alien from Mars. Then I noticed what time it was. I was supposed to have the girls at my sisters house a half hour ago. "Girls, we have to go. Brian, I'll see you tomorrow at lunch. Bye everyone."
When we got to the car, Jess and Sara started asking me a billion questions about what was going on between me and Brian. I ignored them. I dropped the girls off at Jen's house, then I went home.
I checked my answering machine, and I had two messages. One was from Jen, flipping out because the girls weren't home yet, and the other was form Ben. He wanted to know how the concert went. I didn't call him back. Instead, I went to bed. I had to think about what happened tonight and why I agreed to meet brian for lunch. Something felt different, but i could quite place my finger on what it was.

The next morning, I woke up at 10:00 because my phone was ringing. It was Ben.
"Hey, I'm sorry I didn't call you back last night. I was really tired."
"That's OK Cassie, I was just wondering how eerything went."
"It was OK, I guess. Brian and I agreed to meet for lunch today to talk about things. I want you to come with me. Can you?"
"I'm so sorry, but I can't. I have to work today because Jason (LOL Dani, I wonder where I'm getting these names from) called in sick."
"Oh well, that's OK. I'll be fine. I'll call you when I get back."
"OK, I love you."
"I love you too. Bye Ben."
About an hour and a half later, I was ready to go to lunch. I was wearing a pair of boot cut jeans with a dark blue shirt. I drove to the Hard Rock Cafe, and I was there before Brian, so I sat down at a table and waited for him to come.
All the sudden I hear a couple girls start screaming. "OH MY GOD!! IT'S BRIAN FROM THE BACKSTREET BOYS!!"
I started laughing so hard, I almost fell out of the booth. Then I saw Brian push his way through the little crowd that gathered. He came and sat down at the table with me.
"Well," I said, "what a way to start lunch!"
"Glad you find it funny Cassie! I thought you said you were going to bring someone with you."
"Oh, Ben couldn't come, he had to work."
"Ben?"
"This isn't the way I was going to tell you, but I'm engaged. Ben's my fiancee."
Brian just sat there for a moment, not believing what I just said. "Are you OK Brian?" I asked.
"Yeah, that's just not what I expected you to say. It kinda surprised me. Well we came here to talk, so..."
"OK, do you want to know the real reason why I dumped you?"
"Well, that would be nice."
"Well, for one, I never saw you enough. And whenever we DID see each other, we fought, I mean, we never agreed on ANYTHING! There are a lot of reasons...but the most important is I didn't think you would have enough time for me once you became famous."
"Cassie..."
"I know, I know, you're going to say that's such a stupid reason to break up with someone and you probably can't stand me anymore."
"No Cassie, that's not what I was going to say." Brian came and sat next to me in the booth. "I was going to say, I would have made time for you. I loved you...and I still do." Brian said as he kissed me softly on the lips.
I pulled back quickly. "Brian, I can't do this. I'm engaged." I got up quickly and left Hard Rock.
"Cassie, wait!" Brian said, as he followed me outside. But I didn't listen to him.
