Nicholas was born on February 16, 1998 at 3:25 A.M. I had been at my parents house for dinner that day as we do every Sunday and everyone was kidding around saying that if I ate enough pasta I would go into labor. Well little did they know! After dinner we were sitting around just chatting and I realized that I had had contractions continuiously for the past hour and they lasted for 10 minutes each. I said this to my hubby and mom{D} and they just said ok. I wasn't nervous because I had had such bad braxton hicks for the past few months and again I still had 3 weeks to go. Anyway after a while hubby, Joey and I went home and after getting Joey into bed and hubby off to sleep I sat down to relax, only to realize that I was still having contractions. I started to write them down and they were all very irregular so I decided to go to bed! I remembered reading that if you can go to sleep and the contractions DON'T wake you up then you aren't in labor. I woke up about an hour later with a contraction but it was NOT painful at all! By this time it was about 1:00 A.M. I just decided to sit up for awhile til the pain stopped. I was convinced they were braxton hicks until around 2:00 am when my water broke. I calmly called the doctor and he asked about my contractions and I told him they were very irregular and he asked if I wanted to go to the hospital and get checked. My gut feeling said Yes so that is what we decided. He told me to call him back if the pains got more severe before we left for the hospital! At this point I called my mom{D} and woke my hubby up and honestly I was so calm cuz I was NOT in pain at all, we got our things together and waited for my father in law to pick Joey up and left for the hospital. The hospital is about 20 minutes away from my house and by this time it was about 3:00 am give or take! Well.....about halfway to the hospital I began to feel VERY intense contractions and a whole lot of pressure! And if you remember from my last birth story I had an epidural so I was now feeling things that I had never felt before and I knew something was wrong!!! I was screaming at the top of my lungs and Joe was driving at about 80 MPH and Mom{D} is in the back seat as calm as could be saying "Don't worry, You have lots of time" We were about 3/4 of the way there and I realized that the baby was crowning and I verbalized this to Mom{D} & hubby and they both said NAH!!! Well, we decided at that point to go to the ER instead of admitting and as we drove along the strip that the hospital is located on we found that it had 900 entrances that all said EMERGENCY!!! After turning into the wrong one and having to make a u-turn (I'm still screaming by the way) we found the right one and drove in.....I opened the car door only to find a security guard there telling us that we COULD NOT park there.I thought hubby was going to kill him! Well at this point all of us were panicking including mom{D} who by this point had felt the baby's head for herself.(let me add that I have NEVER seen this woman panic!!! I looked around to see lots of paramedics who didn't know what to do first! Ummm hello I am having a BABY!!!!! Anyway, after bringing me a wheel chair (yes I am IN THE POCESS of delivering a baby...Let me sit!!)needless to say I declined the wheelchair and traded it in for something to lie down on! They wheeled me into the ER and closed the curtain and there was our baby boy (literally) He just couldn't wait to meet us! (hahaha)The first thing he did....He urinated on me!! we named him Nicholas Rocco, Nicholas is just a name I have always loved and Rocco is my grandfather! Nicholas weighed in at 7lbs 11 ozs. and was 20 inches long. What an entrance into the world and he is just as persistent now as he was the day he came into the world! |
