Kestrel grew up on an old fashioned island where they were forced to wear dresses of medieval fashion. She has two sisters, Rowan who is two years older and Jade who is one year younger. Rowan is gentle and stately, the wisest of the group. She has brown hair aglow with chestnut highlights and warm brown eyes that were always caring and open. She was also the most sensitive one. Jade had silvery blonde hair and wide, trusting green eyes. She was usually a little off-beat but had a good and kind heart. She did love to hunt though, and could be tough if she wanted to be. Ash is Kestrel’s older brother by one year, but she never lets him boss her around. He had ever-changing color eyes and was always lazy and loose.

The days on the island were long and tiring from work, curiosity, and boredom. Then the day came when Ash was allowed to leave the island. Well, Kestrel got so mad. She figured if Ash was allowed to leave, Rowan should be too because she was eldest. But that wasn’t the case. They were an old fashioned family and even after Kestrel tried her great persuasion skills on their parents, they wouldn’t allow the girls to leave. Their father said they would be married off immediately if they even thought of leaving. Of course, Jade started whining and so Rowan began to write letters to their Aunt Opal who had left the island with her husband awhile ago. Before anyone could get suspicious, the plans were made and Rowan, Kestrel, and Jade were off to meet their aunt in far away Briar Creek, Oregon.

There they found out that their aunt had been murdered and also found themselves blood tying with two humans, which Kestrel didn’t exactly approve of. In the midst of it all, their brother Ash decided to drop by and make sure that the girls went back home. They wouldn’t go, so Ash determined that after they found the killer they would go home. Then the girls got all mad and didn't want to. To top it all off, Ash's soulmate was the human girl, and Jade believed her soulmate was the human girl’s brother. One night after the blood-tie took place, Ash took the human girl out to walk under the stars, and they had a run-in with the werewolf that turned out to be the killer. To make a long story short, they roasted the 'wolf and the girls got to stay in Oregon. Ash went home to explain it all to his parents and was supposed to come back for the human girl, telling her that even when they were apart, they’d be looking at the same sky.
