We, my Dad, Jeff Cisz, Mike Alt and I, arrived a little late but they were expecting us so they hadn't begun the tourney yet. I was still playing my Falcon Deck for LS, I always start with Battle Plan, and my ISB Space for DS, mainly because I was too lazy to make new decks. On to the games:

Game 1: My DS vs. Mike Alt's HBX

I had played this match-up two weeks prior so I knew the key was Monnok and not overdeploying early. I started with SP on my Coruscant, and he started with S-Foils. I happened to draw 2 Monnoks in my opening hand so I knew I was doing ok, so I just drew a few. On his turn he deployed a load of systems from his hand and one from his deck and flipped, we both commented about his odd opening draw. On my second turn I activated twelve and drew a few and saved the rest. On his turn he just drew, looking for ships apparently. I decided it was time to begin deploying so I Monnoked first and got 3 X-wings, 2 ICBW's, and 2 Organized Attacks. I dropped the Devestator and an ORS at Coruscant, Fett in Slave1 at Kiffx, and Bossk in Bus at another system. On his turn he decided to draw again as he knew he would have to stop my drains soon. On my turn I monnoked again at got another 7 cards! I got in my drains and drew a bunch for the ship reinforcements I knew I would need. He drew again, this time more cautiously and said go. I drained and probed with the useless cards in my hand, to no avail. I then realized there was a huge hyperspeed gap between the two ends of the table and I would need a 4 to get to Kessel at all so that or Endor was probably his HB. I reinforced some ships with ISB pilots and flipped my objective then moved my ships together so I controlled 2 systems. On his turn he dropped X-wings at nearly every system I didn't control. On my turn I sent Zuckuss in MH to take care of his Kessel drain, along with a Lateral Damage, and 2 Dreads with a pilot to take care of his Coruscant drain. He houjix'd both battles, #mental note: add a 3rd Monnok. Then I probed, got it at Kessel, and moved to keep from getting too drained. It went like that for a few turns, him getting in a drain or 2, me getting in a few more and killing a ship of his. He played AWRI and got back 5 I think but it was all too little too late. Chalk a win up for Monnok. Full win by 23?

Highlights: My old school deck beat its nemesis.

Lowlights: What if I hadn't gotten the Monnoks?

Game 2: My LS vs. Jeff Cisz's JP Manipulation

He started ETE, I with BP as usual. This was a fairly quick game. I set up my JT1 quick and popped down Projections to stop his ground drains. He SCrewed away a Captain. I had the Falcon, GLinG1, Rebel Barrier, Tunnel Vision, Kiffex and some adders in my hand so I didn't worry. I decided to drop Kiffex and GLinG1 and I would back it up with the Falcon next turn, #stupid mistake 1, then I drew my last force, #stupid mistake 2. On his turn he popped down Bossk in Bus, Fett in Slave 1 and Dengar in P1, battled and I lost about 14 cards. I also lost GLinG1 and my RLinR1 which were my other ships for CHYBC, so now I couldn't drain the rest of the game. I managed to make him lose 3 for OTE for a while but he got some POTF's down and was draining again. He finally battled the loaded Falcon and I wiped out the site, I could smell victory with the Legendary Starfighter in my hand, power: 22 to 22! What!? I double checked and triple checked, I couldn't believe it! I lost Leia for attrition. On his turn the same ships came down again and battled! I took out 2 of them and put another Han down but it was too little too late, my early mistake had sealed my fate. I took out Fett and controlled Kiffex but we were both draining for 2, paying 3 to do it, and he had waaaaay more cards left. Full loss by 13?

Highlights: Falcon still rules the skies!

Lowlights: GLinG1 doesn't! :o(

Game 3: My LS vs Chris Ruddy's ECC Obj/Sabbac deck.

He got some sites out early and I finished my 1st Test by the 3rd turn. I had 2 EPP Leia's and 2 Capn's in my opening hand so I decided I would go and have some fun. I battled his Jabba and EPP Fett and all 4 guys bit it. I waited for him to put out Bespin which he did, along with Lando at the Casino, and the Sabbac began. By some stroke of luck I won and got a Obsidian Squad Tie, sweet! On my turn he played another sabbac, this time he won and got my Falcon...uh oh! I Tunnel'd and luckily got my Falcon which I deployed with the Capn at Bespin, ::phew:: From here on my Falcon did it's job of draining and doing damage with Order to Engage. He eventually battled the Falcon and I got out Legendary Starfighter. I retrieved most of my lost pile with my On The Edges, helped by my Luke on Dagobah with Electrobinoculars :o) I came down with Obi and Orimaarko when he spread out on CC and did some damage in the battle and with OTE when I moved to his weak site and Barrier'd his incoming guys. Eventually LF and my drains finished him off, Full win by 20?

Highlights: Falcon rules, yawn...need a new deck.

Lowlights: None.

Game 4: My DS vs Chris Ruddy's LS Train and space MWYHL. I know that against decks that train to 5 you simply want to do as much damage as fast as possible, so that's what I went for. He dropped some Red ships with matching pilots and the Falcon with EPP Han and RFC at Raltir so I saved up for 3 turns. Then I dropped the D*AS, Dreadnaught, Devestator and a BH ship or two and made him lose half of his fleet. I had trouble finding my Lat Damage, Monnok, or Gravity Shadow so I simply kept chasing and draining him. I tried to nail Han and the RFC on the Falcon with ZiMh and Dengar in P1 but he reacted with SPiral, phooey! He was going through the tests quite quickly, luckily I had Secret Plans and CHYBC in my hand. I eventually got rid of his fleet and started doing some good draining. He put UF on my D*AS which hurt. Unfortunately he completed JT 5 and had a 7 for destiny. He didn't retrieve any due to a well placed CHYBC though. He managed to take back one system with a Red ship and pilot combo. Then he pulled out the Back Door and Bunker, dployed the Epic Event and moved Orimaarko in, oh boy! I figured I should try to stop him so I dropped 4 ISB agents and let them sit there, # mistake 3 of the day, READ THE CARDS!. On his turn he battled, got an extra destiny from the LS Bunker text so I had 14 attrition, I lost all but an ORS. On my turn I had an Undercover in my hand but opted to simply move the ORS to the Back Door instead, # mistake 4, at this point someone should've hit me in the head and told me to wake up! On his turn he blew the bunker, I lost my 8 card hand, and Ori moved to the Back Door, during his control phase! ::smack, smack, smack:: ORS got layeth's the smacketh down and I lost a 7 more force. I drained him out on my turn. Full win by 2!

Highlights: I won ::huff, huff::

Lowlights: I think at one time I used to play this game well...hmmm...

Jeff hadn't lost a game yet so I knew a rematch with him was my only chance at 1st, and I knew my DS deck could beat him...not happening, we were the same side for the last round. Oh well.

Game 5: My DS vs. John Callan's(sp?) CC MnT force drain deck.

This was John's first tourney but I knew he played outisde of tournies a lot so I was being cautious. I got out some good drain systems, Endor and Kashyyk, and Potf on Yavin so I was cooking. If ya smellllll...sorry. I monnoked to see what his space fleet consisisted of, apparently nothing as he had no space related cards in his 20 card hand. SO I deployed a 2 BH ships and a dread with an ORS to each of the systems. On his turn he got SOS with Saber and Proficiency at the Carbonite Chamber with Pucmir Thryss, that could be some serious draining! Luckily I had Ozzel and an Undercover in my hand so I deployed them and drew all my cards knowing I would need som more UC spies, # mistake number something, remember to save a force to move your UC spy. On his turn he dropped another site, for a total of 4 now and moved SOS and Puck. I drained for 6 on my turn and decided to try to curb the drain a bit by dropping another ORS on a ship and 5D6 at his site and flipped my objective, then I drew and got another UC and spy. On his turn he got in a big drain and deployed more stuff on CC and I moved my UC spy to try to slow him. On my turn I got in another 6 and put another UC spy so his drain were back down to 0. On his turn he put down Bespin and Celebration. I drained, dropped a ship at Bespin and cancelled the celebration. My drains had pretty much killed him when I sent ECC Iggy to take care of puck and Chewie, unfortunately Iggy missed, I can't track destinies today either apparently, and only managed to kill of Chewie. I soon drained him out. Full win by 20?

Highlights: Drain in space, block their drains on ground worked well.

Lowlights: Very little interaction.

Game 6: My LS vs Tim Stahl's DS Endor Ops. Tim has never played me and said he was excited to finally get a chance, I knew his deck was unorthodox and if he flipped I was dead so I would have to be careful. I started BP and he started Perimeter Patrol. In my opening hand I had 2 On The Edge's and 2 Cap'n Hans, please don't monnok... He popped down Mara at the DB with a saber. I set up my JT1 by the 4th turn so I only bit 1 drain, which cost him 3. Then he Monnok'd, Doh! I started drawing and luckily got a Falcon and a Tunnel which I used to get the Han. I decided to take control of Endor so I did. He kept draining for 1, this time with Mosep and I lost another On the Egde, not good. By this point I was very worried. I got Leia on the Falcon and dropped Kiffex with RlinR1, this time saving force for the Barrier. He got out some more sites but I put Porjection on them, he counered with a PotF so he was getting 2 drains from my RD in. I had Order to Engage out so I decided it was time do some damage so I dropped Ori and Obi on the Falcon and landed where he was weakest. He didn't want to give up his drains so was careful and lost to Order for a few turns. Then he went to trap me on the end at the Backdoor where I left Obi and Ori while Leia and the Capn' went back into orbit. I simply moved to his Bunker at which point he read the card and said "shoot!" He lost more to Order and I was pulling ahead, unfortunately I had a 15 card hand, lost all my On The Edges and all his drains were coming from my Reserve Deck. He also had that guy who subtracted 3 from the retrieval with OTE, so they wouldn't have been too helpful, the Traffic Control and Effective Repairs I lost earlier would have been though. He put a Dreadnaught in space and relaized the folly of it when he lost 3 for OTE every turn. Obi and Ori had to run a bit but the damage from Order was too much for him. Full win by 8?

highlights: Knowing I won a game when everything was actually going wrong!

lowlights: none

So I finished 2nd with a score of 10(+80ish) while Jeff took first with 11(+120ish) and Mike Alt took third. So our car had captured the three top spots, not bad, Albany is next ;P

Where has all the hidden text gone? Doo doo doo :O)

Cheers,
Jon Schultz
