DUSTINGS OF SNOW

In December,2000, a week before Christmas, it didn't look like Long Island would have a white Christmas. But then a series of dustings of snow made just enough so that there was a white Christmas.

A cold front approached Long Island on the evening of the 19th. There was a light shower of .03" of rain. A weak storm developed off of Maryland and moved rapidly NE. It threw in a little moisture from 3-7 AM on the 20th to give about an inch of snow.

On the afternoon of the 21st, clouds slowly started to increase again.

Another cold front moved across Long Island with a very weak storm rapidly moving NE from Virginia. Light snow fell from 6-9 AM on the 22nd, leaving about another inch of fresh snow.

Another weak storm with a dragging cold front moved across the Great Lakes on the 23rd. It looked like another dusting of snow on Christmas Eve, but the system had almost no moisture, so nothing fell on Long Island. It was, however, a windy and cold Christmas Day.

It didn't snow, but is this enough snow to qualify as a White Christmas?
