Tarnished Knight

An ally of the heart and soul
developed over the course of years
gets locked outside the kingdom 
by the tarnished knight 
fearful and under strict orders
from the voodoo priestess
trying to weave her magic spell
around his humpty dumpty world

Having found her powers useless
through the muddle of one year
she promises clarity when really
it's broken connections she's after
so much easier to mold the minds
of followers who fill her pockets
than of the invisible enemy,
the one she can't control

And the tarnished knight follows
due to responsibility misplaced
and hating to be the villain
in front of the people of his kingdom
letting their undeveloped doctrines 
affect his future world of 30 years
he sacrifices himself wholly
believing it the road to redemption

But the sacrifice of one
means the sacrifice of two
the ally left alone and bleeding
with a gaping hole in the chest
outside of the kingdom walls
while the voodoo priestess 
washes the glue from her hands
and hopes it doesn't rain
