All I Wanted

All I wanted 
was for us to be us
to belong to each other
to be for each other

All I wanted
was to embrace you
and comfort you
from the harshness of life

All I wanted
was to help you
through your storms
to keep you from drowning

All I wanted
was to be by your side
and have you by mine
to make it together

All I wanted
was my other half
to make me whole
to make you whole

All I wanted
was to love you

But all I wanted
was too much to ask
because you 
weren't yours to give

Now all I want
is to forget
but I know
I never will
