Pieces of You's sales were disappointing. Jewel knew that it was up to her. She toured relentlessly, driving herself to shows. A performance on Conan gave Jewel a national audience. Record sales soon followed. She has won an American Music Award, and was nominated for a Grammy. POY has sold more than 11 million units,and her follow-up, Spirit has been certified triple platinum.



In 1998, A Night Without Armor, a book of poetry, was released. It made the New York Times Bestseller list. Another book is scheduled to be published in 2000.



Jewel was very busy in 1999. She was on tour promonting Spirit, she made her movie debut in Ride With The Devil,and released a holiday album, Joy. Jewel and her mother, Lenedra Carroll,also launched Higher Ground for Humanity, an umbrella charity. Their current project is The Clearwater Project.
