Despite not letting Mason know that she was in labor, Mason found out as he received a call from a co-worker at his law office who had called to ask Mason about one of Julia's cases and, upon learning that she was in labor, left Tori behind and raced to be by Julia's side. Mason was there to support Julia physically and emotionally, as they joyously welcomed their daughter into the world. What follows is the aftermath. A nurse is seen holding the door to Julia's room open. Mason walks in and stands by Julia's bedside. Julia greets Mason, looking happy that he has come back. Before leaving, the nurse interjects, "I'll be bringing Samantha to you in a just a few minutes." She leaves. Mason looks at Julia and asks softly, "Samantha. That's what you named her?" Julia gives a smile. "Samantha Eden Wainwright. I wanted, um, Eden to be the godmother." [Note: Eden was believed to be dead at the time, because of Elena Nikolas.] Mason nods. "It would've meant a lot to her. Especially if she would've known that she was her aunt." Julia gives a sad sort of laugh, as if to dismiss the notion. Mason asserts, "It's true." There is a pause, as Julia and Mason look at each other. Julia looks as if she is trying not to cry. Suddenly, Mason asks, "Want me to leave before they bring her in?" Mason's question breaks Julia's composure, a little. She begins to cry as she answers, "I don't know...what to do." That answer causes Mason to suddenly lean forward and almost collapse on the bed as he and Julia embrace, crying for a moment. A few minutes later, they release each other except for Mason holding Julia's hand, and he stands back up. His voice is a bit unsteady as he finally states, "I'll make it easy for ya. I'll just leave." He starts to back away and Julia reluctantly lets go of Mason's hand. However, Mason's own voice now contains a few tears of his own, as he turns back to Julia. "I'm really glad it's a girl. And I hope she grows up to be just like you." Julia is far too overcome to speak and starts to cry again. As the door closes, an emotionally drained Mason seems to freeze upon encountering the nurse...who is holding Samantha in her arms. Pleasantly, she asks, unaware of the situation, "Would you like to hold your daughter?" It is obvious that Mason is both tempted and reluctant to take the baby. He stares down at the baby intently, as if to memorize her features. Finally, he hedges, and runs a hand through his hair. "You'd better take her to her mother." This time, it is Mason who holds the door open for the nurse. Julia is still sobbing a bit, and those sobs turn bittersweet as she gets a glimpse of her and Mason's daughter for the first time. As the nurse puts Samantha into Julia's waiting arms, we see the blinds across the room open from outside in the hall...while Mason secretly gazes upon Julia and Samantha. So goes this bittersweet moment...
