Time: 1989, a few months before the wedding, but after conquering Sonny Sprockett; Mason and Julia are cuddling on the sofa. Julia wears one of Mason's shirts, while Mason is clad in a robe and pajama bottoms. Both look content and give each other kisses, when Julia brings up the subject of food.

Julia jokingly sounds reluctant as she asks Mason in between a kiss, "I suppose that you would...like some real food, wouldn't you?"

Mason, also joking, sounds long-suffering as he responds, "Oh, I'll make something." Julia, smiling and still kissing Mason, counters Mason's offer.

"Ohhh, no. That's okay. I'll do it." Mason and Julia leisurely kiss, seemingly in no rush for food. Julia asks, "How does um...chicken noodle soup sound?"

Mason pulls no punches. "Like a first course." He and Julia kiss again and Julia smiles.

Curiously, Julia asks, "How about uh, peanut butter?"

Mason jokes, "Oh, how you pamper me!" Julia grins and adds, "And the jam...ooh, hoo!" She gets up, leaving the room, and Mason has a funny look on his face. He, too, gets up off the sofa and calls out, "I'm gonna see if they're any messages at the office." However, as he nears the answering machine, the doorbell rings and he qualifies, "Maybe I won't." Mason goes to the door, looks behind him to make sure Julia is not around, and opens it. Lisa DiNapoli, Mason and Julia's secretary at their law office, stands on the doorstep with a gift-wrapped package. It is clear that Mason was expecting her.

Lisa doesn't even say hello as she anxiously says, as she hands Mason the gift, "Don't open this until I'm gone, because if this is not what you had in mind, I don't wanna know about it!"

"I'm sure it's perfect. I hope it wasn't too much trouble," Mason tells Lisa, trying to reassure her.

Lisa brushes off Mason's worry with a bit of amused sarcasm. "Oh, no. Not at all. I love going shopping, looking for the impossible, getting dirty looks...it makes my day."

Mason, who is also amused, dryly asks, "How can I repay you?"

Lisa's request is simple. "Just tell me later that they fit, okay? Or...an obscene bonus in my next check...that might do the trick."

Mason gives a slight grin and says dryly, "We'll talk about it." With that, Lisa smiles and goes; Mason closes the door and looks inside the box.

Impressed, Mason gives the now-absent Lisa a compliment. "Wow, I hope they fit, too. Nice going, Lisa!"

Just then, Julia enters, carrying a tray with the sandwiches. Curious, she asks, "Is that somebody delivering a..." She sees Mason holding the gift, "Mmm, a package!"

Mason gets to the point. "Sit down."

"Why?" wonders Julia.

"For once," Mason tells Julia, "don't ask why, just do what I tell you. Sit down and close your eyes." Julia sets the tray down. She smiles, asking, "Why?" again.

Mason gently shoves a standing Julia on to the sofa, and says, "Sit." Mason kneels on the floor in front of her.

Julia giggles and teases Mason. "Boy, send me to the kitchen like a galley slave, and then you bark orders at me, and now you're...taking my sock off? I didn't know you had a foot fetish, Mason." Julia smiles. "What are you doing?"

"Close your eyes," Mason responds, lifting the lid to the box. He reaches into the now open box, pulling out a glass slipper and holds out Julia's foot. With a laugh, Julia repeats, "What are you doing?"

As Mason tries to put the slipper on, it is apparent that the shoe is just a tiny bit small. "I knew it!" Mason exclaims. He makes an exaggerated gesture of trying to shove the slipper on Julia's foot, as Julia laughs, and says, "A perfect fit!"

Julia opens her eyes and is deeply moved. It is clear that she adores the gift. "It's a glass slipper!" Mason gets up and sits next to Julia. Her face is glowing as she looks at him and says, "How on earth did you...?" She does not finish the question, and just makes a gesture.

Mason explains. "All that talk about fairy tales this morning sort of inspired me. The fact that a liberated woman like you still secretly longs to be a storybook princess..." Mason shrugs, looking at the slipper. "I couldn't resist." He grins.

Julia lovingly looks at Mason, smiling sweetly. "This is the most romantic thing you've ever done." Her voice full of happiness, she adds, "I love you!"

Mason and Julia share a kiss. As Julia pulls back, she suddenly exclaims, "But I feel terrible!"

Looking curious, Mason answers, "Why?"

"'Cause you brought me...magic glass slippers and all I brought you was peanut butter."

Mason stares at Julia, and reminds her, with a trace of desire in his voice, "Let's not forget the jam!" He kisses Julia and she wraps her arms around him happily, as they lean back on the sofa.
