The camera cuts to a balcony where Sebastian is overlooking a portion of the slums. The alarm goes over and he goes back into his apartment and opens the door. Ian comes in carrying his book bag.
Sebastian: What’s in your bag Ian?
Ian(Taking a seat): Nothing the System can’t solve.
A brown cat jumps onto the balcony and peers it’s head in. Sebastian sees this and uses his head to invite the cat in. Ian, looks up from what he is doing and is taken back when he sees the cat.
Ian: Tell it to go outside. Now.
Sebastian: Still afraid of cats?
Ian: I’m not afraid of them I just don’t feel like crying right now, you know? There were Charlie’s favorite animals. Cats…..(He smirks)
Sebastian: What do you have for us now? (Pointing to the book bag)
Ian unloads the book bag onto the table. A piece of rope. A 9mm handgun. A photograph of a stern looking white man.
Sebastian: Caine Noble….The guy that runs the syndicate?
Ian: There is a new man in charge now . He wants to get rid of the dead weight of the syndicate. He wants the old boss, Noble, dead. So he has put up a large contract on his head. I wanted to let you guys have a crack at it.
Sebastian: This will be my last crack at anything. I’m through with all of this. I’m taking Anastasia and moving to the mountains. The higher we go the further away from our troubles here.
Ian: You’ve found a way out the city?
Sebastian: Yes
Ian just looks at him. Sebastian comtemplates something.
Sebastian: Come with me Ian.
Ian: My place is here. I wont and can’t run away from it. (Looks away for a moment) So, you’ll do it?
Sebastian flips the gun into his hand and looks it over. He cocks it and looks at Ian. He nods his head yes.
Ian: It’s easy to use a gun but even harder to let it go.
Fade in on Anastasia’s bedroom. Sebastian and Anastasia lie together on the bed. Sebastian is reading a book to her quietly.
Anastasia: How come you never speak of your parents? Or of your past ?
Sebastian: My past is made up of a string of terrible days
Anastasia: How bad could it have been?
She turns away from the book and looks into his eyes. He looks back down at her.
Sebastian: I have to complete one last job
She turns away from him
Sebastian: It’s the last one. It’s a favor for my partner Ian
Anastasia: Murder? A favor? When are you going to learn Sebastian.
Sebastian: I’m doing this city a favor by killing this one Anastasia. If I could I would want to do this job for free that’s how strongly I hate this piece of filth. (A pause). It will be the last time I pick up a gun. From now on it's just you, Jordan, and me.
Anastasia(Sarcastically): All that for me?
Sebastian: I’m serious.
Anastasia: And after you do this favor for this buddy of yours will you be free? Free of him and Matthew’s System?
Sebastian: That buddy of mines has become more of a mentor to me. I owe him my life and I have to do this for him so I can be free of him and Matthew. After this we are out of here on the first train. I promise.
Anastasia: I’m going to hold that promise to you.
Anastasia crawls over the bed and hugs Sebastian tightly. The camera booms upwards and pans out the window towards the night sky.
It then pans down on Matthew, who is sitting on a terrace over looking the slums. Three men walk onto the terrace. One of them is Ian.
Indigo: We’ve located him Matthew. He’s with Anastasia.
Matthew: Anastasia….Anastasia…Anastasia….I’d never thought for a second that Sebastian would ever find love.
Matthew continues to stare aimlessly across the slums. Ian slithers his way towards Matthew.
Ian: You didn’t tell me that you want Sebastian dead?
Matthew: Did it really matter? You probably would of thought of some clever way to slip him the details, if I had told you?
Ian: We should have agreed on this matter together Matt. I don’t like the way this thing is headed. For you to organize a strike against your enemy and...You’re...friends....
Matthew: Maybe I should I have told you about it? (He turns to face him) After all you did tell me that secret he was keeping away from me. That he was leaving us to continue the war here in the slums. (He sighs)
Ian: It is his decision. Stand by him Matthew. By the looks of things here you have plenty of supporters who would willingly die for you.
The camera pans up on Indigo.
Matthew(Growing a bit agitated): Your missing the fucking point Ian!
A beat.
Matthew(Cont’d): We are supposed to be like a family. You do not abandon your family for an outsider, do you? Of course not. Sebastian and I are like blood brothers. We are the same person and if one of your limbs is not functioning properly….you cut it off.
Ian shakes his head no-no.
Matthew: Ian, your heart is torn in this matter.
Ian: I only want to see the “System” survive and finish the goals it set out to finish. This is not one of them.
Matthew: I want to see Sebastian die. The System wants to see Sebastian die. Your former employers would be glad to see his death too….I think that is enough for you.
Ian: Yes, but he doesn’t know this. Just give me one more chance…
Matthew(Cutting him off): One more chance for what? Ian, if you want to prove your loyalty to the system and me then stand down
Ian(Frustrated): You do this then you better make sure you kill him. You better make sure that he is dead or you better make plans to kill yourself.
Ian begins to take steps back away from Matthew. Their eyes deadlocked on each other’s. He turns and walks out.
Fade in on an office. The camera pans over to James who is going through some files. The camera dissolves into James leaning his head against the wall. The camera dissolves again to James reading over a clipboard, he stands up has Sam walks into the office.
Sam: Got anything?
James: I think I’ve found another link to our suspects. There was a church bombing a couple weeks back. Reports here say that a man entered by himself. Guns in each sleeves. Looking to blow away the priest of the church.
Sam (Looking over his shoulder): I remember that case. Showed people that they are not even safe in church. (He cracks a smile).
James: But yet the eyewitnesses couldn’t I.D the bombers
Sam: Common commonality in cases down there in the slums.
James: What about that boy who said the assassin saved his life by acting has a human shield to protect him from the blocks that were falling from the ceiling. He should be able to place our suspect at that scene.
Sam: I asked that kid some questions. He couldn’t remember a dam thing and was a waste of my time.
James: We need to get him back in here again.
James sits quietly staring at the clipboard. The camera pans over his shoulder and stops showing a picture of Jordan on the clipboard.
