Fade in:
Fade in on a small church. A crack of thunder and rain begins to pour down from the darkened skies. Inside the confessional box, Sebastian holds a gun to the black airway between him and a priest.
Priest: Assassin, why do you feel you must take my life?
Sebastian doesn’t answer. He grips the gun tightly and readies himself to pull the trigger.
Priest: The book condemns the taking of lives for whatever costs they may be. Trust me son, I know you don’t want to pull that trigger. The real enemy is still out there... waiting to strike.
Sebastian (Breaking his silence): What do you mean? The enemy is still out there?
Priest: How old are you?
Sebastian: My age doesn’t matter.
Sebastian’s eyes darts around the church. He sees a troop of young girls walking into the church. He stares at them for a moment.
Priest: And did you always want to become an assassin?
Sebastian(Stern): I do what I am good at.
Priest: I hope your employer’s have paid you well assassin. I am now at peace with myself and am ready to die. May your sins be forgiven?
Sebastian hesitates for a moment and raises the gun from the priest’s head.
Sebastian: If you decide to stop preaching the lies of the “Book” I will let you live.
Priest: That is something I cannot do. Obviously, you must do what you are good at? Maybe you haven’t found your true calling yet?
Suddenly, within moments of Sebastian pulling the trigger, bullets explode around him. Sebastian turn, rolls out of the confessional box, and starts firing in every direction. Another loud explosion occurs that leads the ceiling come crashing down on us.
Blackness creeps across the screen.
Fade in on a small hospital room.
Sebastian: What happened to me?
Sebastian rolls over to his side and picks up his head. He’s seems to be in a large room full of beds and people who are getting attended to by nurses. A flash of memory hits Sebastian and he screams to check if he is dead.
Nurse(Maria Bello): What are you doing?(She holds his shoulders down) You’re in the 2nd street hospital sir.
Sebastian: How did I get here? Am I injured?... Who are you?
Sebastian checks his arm when the beautiful nurse places her hand upon his. Their eyes meet for the first time.
Nurse: No, you are not hurt. You miraculously survived that explosion. I don’t know how you did it. But your priest friend was not so lucky, he died some hours ago. (She begins to walk away). My name is Anastasia and I will help you with whatever you want, within reason of course.
Sebastian lays his head back onto his pillow
Sebastian: If only you could help?
Anastasia: I wish I could help you… Sebastian.
Sebastian rises in his bed
Anastasia: Yes, I know who you are I’ve read the stories they print about you and your organization.
She takes a step in his direction.
Anastasia: Why do you feel you have to kill to enlighten?
Sebastian: Sometimes I pray for other worldly powers that I could use to bring hope to everyone around me. The only power I can use right now is a gun. And if I could enlighten those who would hurt the innocents I would (He clenches his fist and looks away)... but I can’t do it.
Anastasia: Then there is truly no hope for us.
The camera pans to the window and slowly zooms in on the black sky.
The camera pans down from the night sky onto the hospital where Anastasia is attending to Sebastian’s wounds. The camera fades in and out of the room. We see Sebastian’s health gradually restoring but something still seems to be bothering him.
Another day, Anastasia brings him a piece of paper with a song written on them.
Anastasia: It’s a song written by my little boy. I remember reading somewhere that you liked to write lyrics and stories. Read this for me then?
Sebastian: I used to do that when I was a little boy….a lot with my mother actually.
He smiles in a moment of memory of his mother.
Anastasia: What made you stop?
Sebastian: The same thing that makes a young man evolve into a man.
A brief silence between the two is broken when Anastasia asks Sebastian to write her a song. He stares at her with a blank look on his face.
Sebastian: What would you like me to write about?
Anastasia: Something from (She points to a spot on his chest) your heart.
He shakes his head okay.
The next day Anastasia comes to his side.
Anastasia: Have you finished writing your song for me?
Sebastian: I have one more line to write and will sing it for you in a few days. I need to practice a little bit, I don’t want to show-off all at one time.
Anastasia(Full of spirit): I can’t wait.
Sebastian gets out of his bed and begins to walk to the window. The black sky looks down at him. Anastasia walks over to him and rests a hand on his shoulder.
Fade out
Fade in
Anastasia, carrying some bags, walks out of the hospital and up the street. Behind her, two men wait in the shadows. They speed up. One of the thugs grabs Anastasia’s handbag and throws her to the ground. The other thug grabs her by the next and drags her into a nearby alleyway. He begins to take of his clothes. Sebastian suddenly appears behind them. A roundhouse kick sends the thug into a nearby dumpster. Anastasia goes crawling in the opposite direction.
Sebastian turns to the other thug with Anastasia’s handbag. He begins to walk towards him. The thug begins to panic and nervously pulls out a gun. Sebastian runs and grabs him before he can fire. The two wrestle around for a bit and then…BANG! The smoke clears and the body of the young thug are under the feet of Sebastian.
Anastasia crawls her way to safety. Sebastian comes running over to her; he tries to help him up. Anastasia suddenly wrenches free and slaps Sebastian across the face hard.
Anastasia: Don’t you fucking touch me?
Sebastian: It’s me Anastasia….it’s Sebastian
She goes to attack him once more. Sebastian blocks all of her attacks and then grabs her arms together.
Sebastian: Stop! I won’t hurt you.
She realizes that it’s him. Anastasia apologies to him and he gives her bag back.
Anastasia: You wouldn’t hurt me?
Sebastian: Some thugs tried to rob you but everything is okay now.
Anastasia turns and sees the dead body of one of the thugs.
Anastasia: Is he dead? Could-Could you walk me home?
Sebastian: That’s fine by me
From the level of where the thug lies dead we look up at Anastasia’s face as Sebastian lead her away from him. She looks shocked.
The camera cuts to Anastasia’s home.
The house is run-down and very spare. The door creaks open and a light turns on
Sebastian: So I should get going, right?
Anastasia: Maybe you should stay for a bit.
From out of the bedroom comes running a small boy no more than six years old. He runs and clings onto the leg of Anastasia
Small boy: Mom, your home!
Anastasia: Gabriel, this is Sebastian. Sebastian this (Picks him up) is my little bundles of joy.
The camera intercuts between Gabriel and young Sebastian. A small resemblance of a child’s innocence.
Sebastian: Where is the father?
Anastasia: He abandoned us. I’m over feeling sorry for myself. We don’t need because we will survive on our own. (She tickles the nose of Gabriel)
Sebastian walks around the apartments. He stops in front of a candid shot of Anastasia and Gabriel along with the father. He grabs it off the case and examines it.
The camera fades to black
Sebastian V.O: Touching wasn’t it? Was I about to burst inside? All the years of anger build up inside of me about to reach a boiling point by the picture of a young family. I am now thinking of quitting this life of mines and moving out to the mountains of Wamego with her and Gabriel. A sign of weakness?
The camera cuts to Matthew as he stares at a cracked frame of Sebastian
Sebastian V.O: Matthew sure took it as one.
Fade in on a street. We pan down into the heart of the commotion. Cars, civilians, and buses, the city goes about its business. The camera pans over to Ian, he carries a black book bag across his shoulder, ducks and weaves his way though the crowd. Just missing a light he decided to hop onto a local bus.
