Sectional Rankings - Pre-Season

Note on pre-season rankings: Though some early season results are mentioned in the comments, they are not reflected in the actual rankings until next week. I've included all teams that had at least three runners returning from last year's varsity team. If they don't field a full team by Sept. 20th then they'll be removed until they can. Also remember that unlike the league predictions, I put more into invitational results than dual meet results for the sectional team rankings since it's an invitational that decides who goes to states. First two or three rankings are always a little off so give me some time before you start blasting me.

Boys Rankings

Class A

RK Team LW Comments
1 Shenendehowa - Not at full strength but still the team to beat, Gaedje ahead of Gurzler is a plus for the team.
2 Bethlehem - Looking good, lead by the Shaffer's and a tight pack with 3rd through 5th runners.
3 Colonie - Murphy looking strong but Audi still not where he should be yet.
4 Shaker - Top three are strong and young runners look to be stepping in well
5 Saratoga Springs - Gervasio and Kiley running well, not sure of the rest of the team yet.
6 Guilderland - Rhodes-Devey had a nice first race, usually slow starters and Dubois is out for right now.
7 Niskayuna - Rough first meet against Shen and Toga with a young team, will take some lumps
8 Albany High - Didn't have their full team at Fonda so time will tell to see where they are.
9 Amsterdam - Looked good at the Fonda Invy, will be a tight battle with Albany for Big 10 title.
10 Columbia - Harding looks like he's back in form, Close loss against Averill Park hurts
11 Schenectady - Aceto could have a good senior year, we'll see after their first meet.
12 Ballston Spa - Young team, but could move up into the top ten with some solid results.
13 LaSalle - Personally, I think this is a little low for them, Look for Tyrell to break out in his senior year.
14 Troy - Lewis and Brown are strong but need some help from the rest of the team
15 C.B.A. - After Lee, not sure what they have, we'll see after their first meet.

Class B

RK Team LW Comments
1 Burnt Hills - Early 16:01 by Little is a big boost, rest of team in low 17's is a good start.
2 Queensbury - Haven't run yet but team should be right there with Burnt Hills all season,
3 Scotia-Glenville - Madigan and White lead a young team, will be tough but probably a year away.
4 Mohonasen - Should be tough in Class B but just lost big to Bethlehem and Guilderland.

6 Albany Academy - Mabee is back healthy which should help them, could move up by end of the year.
7 Averill Park - Frost-Tift and Thomas lead them to a win over Columbia, need help from rest of the team to move up though.
8 Glens Falls - LaPlanche leads team, We'll see how the rest of the team is after first meet.
9 Cobleskill-Rich. - Finished 3rd at Oneonta with Steiger in the top 10, 3rd through 5th need to improve though.

16 South Glens Falls - In big trouble if Tourge isn't running which is what I hear. Only two others return.

Class C

RK Team LW Comments
1 Fonda-Fultonville - Looked pretty good at their Invy, need their 4th and 5th to improve to keep the ranking. Very close with Chatham right now.
2 Chatham - Sarro and Bartholomew are solid but we'll have to see how the rest of the team is at Blackbird
3 Broadalbin-Perth - Nice win by Lyons at Fonda, only had four running so they need a 5th man to stay here.
4 Sch. Christian - Turner and Collins will be tough, will have to see how the new runner do at Blackbird.
5 Granville - Had to drop them down after I learned their top two quit for football, what fools!
6 Voorheesville - Holland is a solid number one, we'll see how the hosts' new runners do this weekend at the Blackbird.

8 Catskill - Only have three runners return. We'll see if they're complete at Blackbird.
9 Tamarac - Very good numbers but need the times to drop to move up.

Class D

RK Team LW Comments
1 Berne-Knox-Westerlo - Still the team to beat, though not as deep as they used to be. Shouldn't hurt them too much though,
2 Galway - Daino is tops in Class D, they'll need the rest of the team to help him out if they want to dethrone B-K-W.
3 Duanesburg - Here's my darkhorse pick. Could be the NCAA champion  Syracuse team of Section2 with the youth they have.
4 Greenwich - Allen leads a solid top three, if 4th and 5th improve then they can definitely make a move.
5 Maple Hill - Durkin leads a team with good numbers. Blackbird will show what the rest of the team can do.
6 Hawthorne Valley - Solid Returnees lead by Palmer should help them stay up in the rankings, can move up with some improvements.
7 Hadley-Luzerne - Nice top two but we'll have to see if they're young runners will help the team.
8 Corinth - Forgot Wujciak when I did my league preview. Should move up with help from some new runners.
9 Hoosic Valley - Karweil's lead a good top three but some new runners or they'll be incomplete again.
10 Berlin - Only return three but Levens is a good number one. We'll see if they can fill the lineup.
11 Mayfield - Brooks is an excellent number one but only have three right now. We'll see if they can fill up their team soon.
12 Schoharie - Quandt leads a team with good numbers, need to see how the rest of the team runs.
13 Mechanicville - Return four runners from last year but they'll have to improve their times...Blackbird will show us where they're at.

Girls Rankings

Class A

RK Team LW Comments
1 Saratoga Springs - Strong wins again Shen and Nisky. Once again the team to beat and it will be a tough time beating them.
2 Columbia - Got a scare from Shaker but still came out 2-0. Need 3rd through 5th to improve if they want to stay 2nd.
3 Shenendehowa - Shocked by Nisky on Tuesday. Didn't get full results so I'm not sure of people were missing.
4 Colonie - Lost to Burnt Hills by one without Jankowski. Need their 3rd through 5th runners to improve.
5 Bethlehem - Looked sharp against G'land and Mohon. Malinowski looked strong. Can definitely contend for second if they keep it up.
6 Niskayuna - Look good by taking out Shen. McTague looks in good form. Not sure how the rest of the team is without the full results.
7 Shaker - Just edged out by Columbia but Tibbitts looked good and their depth is excellent.
8 Guilderland - Lynch looked good in loss against Bethlehem and win against Mohon. Rest of the team needs to step up though.
9 Amsterdam - Krong and Welch looked good at Fonda but they need help from the rest of the team if they want to move up.
10 Ballston Spa - Beane is a good number one. Have to see they're first meet to see how rest of the team will do.
11 Catholic Central - Fitzgerald back after missing sectionals last year will help the team improve this year.
12 Albany High - Only ran four at Fonda but they always improve as the year goes on. Apakarian didn't run and she's they're number one.
13 Troy - Smolinski leads but team to improve times if they want to move up.
14 Schenectady - Gnoinski is a good number one but need some numbers to compete.
15 Bishop Maginn - Hit hard by graduation. Carey leads a young team that may struggle this year.

Class B

RK Team LW Comments
1 Holy Names - Lost Maloy but still bring back a solid team lead by Ohm and Hardwick. Shaker Invy will show how they stand.
2 Burnt Hills - Very close second, even closer after beating Colonie, Montgomery has two wins already.
3 South Glens Falls - Bring back everyone after disappointing sectionals last year. Will be ready for redemption.
4 Queensbury - Deep team with tightest pack in Class B, but they need a solid number one.
5 Scotia-Glenville - King and Schaub are solid one-two can move up if young runners can step up to the task.
6 Lansingburgh - Return everyone and can move up higher is everyone improves. McDonough is a returning state qualifier.
7 Averill Park - Comes back down from Class A with Hollinger healthy this year. Stayed lose with Burnt Hills at Fonda.
8 Mohonasen - New runners will help team but I didn't see State qualifier Bennett in top 10 in first dual.
9 Bishop Gibbons - Doherty is top returnee in Class B but rest young team needs to step up to climb the rankings.
10 Gloversville - Return a solid top three but they didn't look very good at Fonda and only ran four runners.
11 Cobleskill-Rich. - Lost a ton to graduation but finished 2nd at Oneonta Invy so they're coming back nicely.
12 Ichabod Crane - Return everyone from last year but need to improve times and need someone tp step up as their number one.
13 Glens Falls - Hit hard by graduation. We'll have to see how the returnees do in the first meet.
14 Schalmont - Another team hit by graduation. Blackbird will show how the rebound from it.
15 Ravena - Only return three and were incomplete last year. Pry is a solid number one to rebuild around.
16 Hudson Falls - Return four runners. Need to drop the times to move up. Delk is a good number one,
17 Johnstown - Not sure they're complete this year. Canceling Johnstown Invy is not a good sign.

RK Team LW Comments
1 Chatham - Top team with Coon, Nelson, and Brinkerhoff. Not as deep in past years but still best depth in Class C
2 Cohoes - Very Solid top four but need a fifth runners if they want to compete with Chatham.
3 Voorheesville - Have good depth but need someone to step in as number one. Looked good at Fonda last week.
4 Schuylerville - Returning state qualifier Ainsworth is a solid number one. Need some numbers to compete.
5 Fonda-Fultonville - Graduation hit them hard, need some improvement from returnees if they want to move up.
6 Granville - Kearsing is a good number one but to move up they'll need help from their 3rd through 5th runners.
7 Broadalbin-Perth - Rappleyea will be one of the top runners in Class C after her win at Fonda, doesn't look like they'll be complete though.
8 Catskill - Full team but will have a tough time moving up unless team's times drop.
9 Greenville - Only returning three so they'll need to regroup. Times need to drop from returnees too.
10 Cairo-Durham - Have five runners returning but all of their times need to drop if they want to move up.

Class D

RK Team LW Comments
1 Argyle - Defending Class D state champs return everyone and shouldn't have a problem going back to states
2 Galway - Still have a tough team with three runners under 21 minutes. Could use some improvement from 4th and 5th runners.
3 Berne-Knox-Westerlo - Domermuth has finished top 10 at states the last two years. Rest of team is improving but will have a tough time moving up.
4 Duanesburg - Top four return and should have some modified. Could pass B-K-W with enough improvement
5 Maple Hill - Good number and good number on with Saar but they will have a tough time moving up.
6 Schoharie - Should have a full team. Quandt is a good number one/ Hopefully their modified runner from last year steps in nicely.
7 Berlin - Not sure if they'll have a complete team. Ingraham leads them as their number one but only return three runners.
