The Section II Harrier Website ...Stuff
11.5.02 Current Song: Moby - "One of these Mornings" Website that say nothing to do with running: Strongbad's Email Well I guess you can call this my "thoughts on Sectionals", that is if you want to name it or something. First we'll turn to Class A's. Shenendehowa boys and Saratoga girls were very impressive. Niskayuna ran a great race to take third as the fight behind Shen was close all year. Colonie stepped up when they had to for second place. My upset pick of Shenendehowa was hurt by Sarah Rogers not running though they probably still would've been fourth with her, just a little closer. .Both Shen and Saratoga are favorites to win states and feds. Northport should give Shen a run at states since they're running on their home course but if Shen runs steady like they have all year then they should take it. Saratoga will win hands down. I predict they scores 20 points in the race. Class B's, Burnt Hills took it but Queensbury definitely gave them a scare. Queensbury's fourth and fifth runners really stepped up for them. guess Neal Dignum surprised some people by winning the Class B race. I wasn't one of them after seeing him run in his last few races. He really stepped it up. I think Burnt Hills has a good shot at states if they can move that pack up a little bit. The rankings may have Horace Greeley at number one right now but I think the team to look out for is East Aurora. The boys side is wide open so it's going to be the team that has the best day. On the girls side. Liz Maloy should be the individual winner. I don't see anyone challenging her in this race. Her Holy Names team might have a tough time but if the rest of the runners can step up, like they have been doing at the end of this season then they may turn some heads. Still gotta give the edge to Honeoye Falls-Lima until they actually lose. The Class C girls' race was something to watch. Watching the finish I had no idea if Cobleskill-Richmondville or Chatham was going to get it. In the end, Cobleskill took it by a point. Good job for that team. They were hit hard all year long with injuries and they came together at the right time. Chatham looked good too but they will have a tough time at states. Sauquoit Valley, Lansing, Pearl River, Bayport-Bluepoint and Addison are all tough teams. The individual race will be right up there with the Class A race with Brendan Fennell of Pearl River, Lopez Lomong and Dominick Luka of Tully and Connor Farrell of Bayport-Bluepoint all running in the race. Argyle was once again very impressive and they even had their fourth girl DQ'ed for her hair thingy falling out and taking it a putting it on her wrist. Yes a stupid rule but unfortunately it's still a rule. Look on the bright side, it's better that it happened now instead of the state meet. They have a great shot at winning states but they still have to get through tough teams from Beaver River and Bronxville (though I don't think Bronxville is as tough as they have been in the past.) It's been awhile since a small school from Section 2 has won a state title (Greenwich boys in 1991) and I think the sectional team could have a good shot at breaking the Section 3 juggernaut but it will be a close one. The Berne-Knox-Westerlo boys looked very good too. They run a nice pack but it will have to move up a little if they want to challenge Salmon River (who they lost to early in the year at Fort Plain) and East Rochester. Well I guess that's all for now. Since I have some free time now I'm going to try to fill in some of the sub-varsity race results that I haven't put up yet. It will take me a bit but I'll try to get up everything that I have. I'll also try to do an end of season awards thing like I did two years ago. Just no whining about it ok? That why I didn't do one last year. JB
