Colonial Council Boys Last Year's Team Champion: Ravena Last Year's Individual Champion: Kevin Catlett (Albany Academy)
Returning state meet qualifiers in bold
Albany Academy: Last year's record: 6-1 Sectional place: 9th place - Class B Top Returnees: Neal Dignum Sr., Doug Mabee So., New Krumdieck Sr., Greg Gersuk Jr. Outlook: Big loss with Class B champ Catlett now at Columbia. Dignum will be one of the top runners in the league but the rest of the runners will have to step up if the want to challenge for the league title. Cobleskill-Richmondville: Last year's record: 5-2 Sectional place: 2nd place - Class C Top Returnees: Jim Tillapaugh Sr., Brett Brimlow So., Bob Bartlett Jr., Bill Angle Jr. Outlook: Only return four from their sectional team but should still challenge for the title. State qualifier Tillapaugh looks to be be early individual favorite but they need some more depth since their fourth returnee is over twenty minutes at Saratoga. Cohoes: Last year's record: 2-5 Sectional place: incomplete - Class C Top Returnees: Matt Edwards Sr., Dave Benamati Sr. Outlook: Only two return from last year's sectional team with no modified runners coming up. Need to get some bodies to stay competitive. Edwards is a solid number one though. Lansingburgh: Last year's record: 0-6-1 Sectional place: incomplete - Class C Top Returnees: Bob Carabis Sr. Outlook: Ran incomplete last year and return only one. Had a couple on modified last year but program needs to build up before they can compete. Mechanicville: Last year's record: 0-6-1 Sectional place: incomplete - Class C Top Returnees: Jerry Gibson Sr., Zach Montaro Fr., Dallas Foard So., Matt Higgins Jr. Outlook: Return four from last year's team all over twenty minutes at Saratoga. Has a pretty good runner from modified that should help out but are definitely rebuilding this year. Ravena: Last year's record: 7-0 Sectional place: 6th place - Class B Top Returnees: Jason Parker Sr., Sean McGrath So, James Craven Sr. Adam Ross So. Outlook: Defending league champs lose state qualifier Dave Whydra along with some others to graduation. Top three are pretty solid but like most of the other teams in the league need fourth and fifth runners to step up if they want to repeat. Schalmont: Last year's record: 4-3 Sectional place: 7th place - Class B Top Returnees: Paul Notar Sr., Matt D'Arcangelis Sr., Jake Phillips Sr., Mike Torre Sr. Outlook: Good top three with Notar leading the way plus some good modified runners moving up should help them with their depth. My early pick for the league title in a close race. Voorheesville: Last year's record: 3-4 Sectional place: 10th place - Class C Top Returnees: Brett Lafave So., Rob Paquette Jr., Chris Tromblay Jr., Garrett Greenwood So. Outlook: Return four from last year's team. Rebuilding year with top runner just under twenty minutes last year at Saratoga and second runner over twenty minutes. Cobleskill-Richmondville: Last year's record: 6-1 Sectional place: 1st place - Class C Top Returnees: Melissa Stoner Sr., Andrea Kelchlin Sr., Nicole Kosier So., Jessica Stoner So. Outlook: Defending Class C champs lost 2 out of their top five but should still be solid with Stoner and Kelchlin as their top two, good depth, and a good modified team coming up. Definitely will be in the hunt for the league title and for a Class C repeat. Cohoes: Last year's record: 5-2 Sectional place: 2nd place - Class C Top Returnees: Ruth Steciuk So., Kayla Tomaro So., Brittany Demarse Jr., Ann Marie Keeler Jr. Outlook: Class C runner-ups return entire team and will challenge for the league title. Good pack with their top four but need their fifth runner to improve. Steciuk, Tomaro, and Demarse were all state qualifiers last year. Holy Names: Last year's record: 7-0 Sectional place: 1st place - Class B Top Returnees: Elizabeth Malor Sr., Mollie Tomlinson So., Dierdre Cummings Jr., Francesca Bruno Sr. Outlook: Two-time Class B champions were hit hard by graduation, losing four out of their top five but still returning enough to repeat as league champs. Maloy is one of the top runners in the state and they also have a freshman and a good modified runners that should step in for them. Lansingburgh: Last year's record: 4-3 Sectional place: 3rd place - Class C Top Returnees: Jenn Herrington Jr., Amanda McDonough Jr., Sara Lanesey Jr., Laurel Gregware Jr. Outlook: Return their top seven from last year. Solid top four but number five from last year was almost two minutes back. Had a good modified team last year and a couple of them could definitely help out this year. Mechanicville: Last year's record: 0-6-1 Sectional place: incomplete - Class D Top Returnees: Emily Newman Sr. Outlook: Only return one runner from last year and didn't have any modified. Time to try and rebuild. Ravena: Last year's record: 0-6-1 Sectional place: incomplete - Class B Top Returnees: Val Gordon Jr. Sabrina Pry So. Outlook: Only return two runners from last year but did have a full modified team last year that could step up. Still, it's a rebuilding year. Schalmont: Last year's record: 3-4 Sectional place: 8th place - Class B Top Returnees: Kristen Ferraro Sr., Krista Supronowicz Jr., Erin Cullen Sr., Emily Lopuch Sr. Outlook: Solid team returning but not quite up with the top four teams yet. Also had a very good modified team last year that should help out. It will be tough for them to move up from fifth though. Voorheesville: Last year's record: 2-5 Sectional place: 8th place - Class C Top Returnees: Jenny Emrich So., Sarah Berte So., Laura Pasquali So., Katie Winchell So. Outlook: Whole team was freshmen last year and they return with a full year of varsity under their belts. Unfortunately in a tough league like this it will take them more than one year for them to move up in the standings.
