Spyro 2

Two sources close to Sony told IGN PSX today that Spyro 2 is in the works, and that the Universal-developed game will be shown, and will be playable, at this year’s Electronics Entertainment Exposition starting May 13.

Sony always has wanted a mascot to call its own, and Crash Bandicoot was that cute, wacky character for so long, but it was never completely Sony’s very own. Developed by Naughty Dog, a second-party developer, the three-game Crash series has pushed phenomenal amounts of units inside North America, but outside as well, in countries such as Japan, and all across Europe. Last year, Universal's Spyro made his PlayStation debut and received exceptional response both critically and commerically.

After Crash Bandicoot, Spyro is the closest thing to an in-house platform character for Sony, which lacks a stellar in-house developed platform/mascot character. Though not the complete name of the game, Spyro 2 is believed to hit retail shelves this November and will feature brand new levels and a completely different storyline. We'll have more on the game in the upcoming weeks.
