RPG Plans (My Future)

Over the weekend, Square held its annual stockholder and investor relations meeting to reveal its future plans for sales, company expansion, and to reveal small tidbits on its upcoming games.

The company plans to bring 12 games to the PlayStation within the Japanese fiscal year. Theoretically, that's one game each month, but it's also more than the world was aware of. With previously released games such as Cyborg, Chocobo Racing, Final Fantasy VIII, Racing Lagoon, and Saga Frontier 2 in retail stores, that leaves seven more games are expected. Announced and upcoming titles include Dew Prism, Front Mission 3, and Seiken Densetsu: Legend of Mana. Parasite Eve 2 was shown with a wink at E3, so that's a another, though it hasn't been officially announced. A thinking man would tally that as nine. So assuming that Final Fantasy IX exists (and it does), as Digicube previous announced on its site two weeks ago, there are only two more, which could be anyone's guess (Brave Fencer Musashiden 2, Chrono Cross, or possibly a new game by the name of Vagrant Story). Square is reportedly planning on revealing one of them next month, so we'll hear about.

At the conference, Square reported that last year it released 11 titles all on the PlayStation, and sold about 6.24 million units. With 12 games this year (all on the PlayStation), the company plans to push 6.7 million units, just above last year's sum. The company's ongoing series favorite, Final Fantasy VII, sold more than $3 million worth of units in the last fiscal year.

Hmmm....12 more RPG's to add to my collection and Games List, ultimately keeping me addicted with hours upon hours of gameplay, thus ruining my social life. After all RPG's are My Future.
