Final Fantasy: The Movie is set in the year 2065 and is a "Fantasy story about life and death". The film sees humans threatened by alien invasion and sees the advancement of science regarding life and death. The film's producer, Jun Aida says "There are heroes like the special forces soldiers who try to save the world: there are scientists and some love interests. The theme comes down to if we can't love one another, we can't solve this problem co-operatively to save the world".
