Square's Shocking New RPG

Fresh from the brains of Final Fantasy II&III Producer Hiromichi Tanaka and Xenogears Director & Programmer Kouji Sugimoto comes a new Squaresoft action-RPG in the mold of Brave Fencer Musashi, called Dew Prism.

The central fountain, the city's artery for new information, quests, and secret treasures.

Attention to detail has always been a Square strength, and here, a special effort has been made to make the characters' movements and expressions particularly detailed and realistic. As we reported yesterday, Dew Prism has more than one star. With protagonists (Rue & Mint) and therefore two main storylines, players must select one character to play as, and the second becomes an integral part of the plot. Whilst places and the timelines remain the same irrespective of who you choose, the two girls' personalities and backgrounds are very different. This will apparently make for significant variations in the way the story unfolds.

These guys seem to have a good sense of humor...hopefully...

The exact same event may turn out very differently depending on whom you control. Rue and Mint each possess unique abilities, too - Rue, for example, wields the Ark Edge, meaning she has the unnerving power to transform into monsters with diverse special attacks. Mint's unique advantage is to brandish a ring-like Dual Halo weapon with magical properties.

The hub of activity in Karona is around the town-center fountain, where all the characters gather and exchange information. This is presumably where you'll be able to discover the significance of the Dew Prism magic item, a somehow intrinsic part of life in the fantasy kingdom.

Dew Prism appears to have the look and feel of Brave Fencer Musashi.

Dew Prism will arrive in Japan this summer as a packed-in demo with Legend of Mana, and the full game of Dew Prism is set for a release this fall in Japan.

Square EA had no comment on the availability of Dew Prism in the US, but the likelihood for a 1999 release is slim since Final Fantasy VIII is due in September, and both Final Fantasy Anthology and Saga Frontier II also are due this fall. We'll have more details on Dew Prism in "due" time.
