Chapter 19
That night when Kevin got home, his Mother asked him if he wanted to join Adrianne and her for lunch the next day. As hard as it was for Kevin, he had to decline. The next day was another huge rehearsal, then refitting for costumes, and then packing, and at 7:15 in the morning their flight for Germany took off. Kevin was jam packed for the next 24 hours, and right now he needed some sleep. He hadn't been sleeping lately, and right now it was catching up to him. So, Kevin went straight up to bed, and fell asleep by 9:15.
The next morning, he woke up at 8, and started to get ready. He had to be at the studio by 9:30 for rehearsal, but he wanted to take Adrianne out for breakfast. Since it seemed that everyone in the house was running on a very late and tight schedule, so Kevin got Adrianne in the car and took her to Dunkin' Donuts. They bought donuts for everyone and then brought them back to the house. On the way to Dunkin', Adrianne finally got a chance to talk to Kevin.
"Umm. I think that I just want to say good luck in Europe, and I hope to hear from you. I wish that you could spend some time with me and Mom today, but I know that you are busy. So, I just wanted to tell you now that I love you, and I am glad to know you!"
"What's wrong Adrianne? You sound like you are never gonna see me again. I'll be back in two months, and I will call you. I do have a phone, you know." Kevin reached over and kissed Adrianne on the forehead and messed up her hair.
"Thanks Kev. I needed that. Now I look awful."
"What, you got a hot date with some sexy guy?"
"Umm yeah, real funny. He's soo sexy. He's in this group, and he is the only one who looks good. All the other guys are scrubs, can you imagine that? Real slobs." Adrianne looked at Kevin and smiled.
"Yeah, you are hilarious. I think that you are a liar."
"Never!" Kevin pulled into the driveway, and grabbed the donuts. Both of them went into the house, grabbed a donut and ate breakfast. Then all the guys piled down the stairs, grabbed a donut, and headed out of the house. It was already 9:15.
Adrianne and Ann went on their picnic at about 12:15. They decided to go to the beach. As the two women sat there watching the beautiful ocean, and eating their sandwiches, Ann asked Adrianne if there was anything that she wanted to know about the family, that they hadn't already discussed. Adrianne wasn't sure how touchy this was, but decided to go for it.
"What was my father like?"
"Well, he was a very gentle man. He always had time for his boys. He loved them dearly. He missed you, I could tell. There was always that little something missing from everything. He knew that I knew. But he was too ashamed to ever talk about you, because it was a very hard decision for him.
He spent the first three days that you were born with you, nonstop. He would not leave you alone. When you would cry, he sang to you. You two are very much alike. I wish you knew him, but I am glad I got to meet you."
"What would he sing to me?"
"It was an old song. He sang it to you, because he knew that someday, he would see you again, or someway you would find your way back to us. The song was called "By Heart". He sang it to you the last day that he saw you. Kevin sings it now in concert, I asked him to. I told him it had special meaning to me, but I never told him why. If you want, you can tell him. Or it can be our little secret. Whatever you want."
Adrianne didn't say anything. But she knew that it was fate, that she met Kevin at that concert, when he sang that song. She knew her life was going to be OK, it didn't matter to her that her father was dead, or that she would never get to experience her real family all together. She had her Mother, and her 3 brothers. To her life was good.
THE END!!!
