"My live-and-let-live parenting style Two teens Or is this the easy wasy out?
This was written last November during our wonderful Thanksgiving celebration. The siblings had stayed up late, and the next morning, daughter said...
not good management,"
She said to her mother.
Far into the night
the siblings shared secrets
remembering The Pact.
They never broke it
although she threatened to once,
and that was enough
to get her brothers off the roof
wasn't good?"
asked the mother, heart clutching.
"Those were dangerous times,"
the daughter answered.
"I didn't know how to raise teens;
no one raised me," mother protested.
"We know that,"daughter replied.
grown old too early;
too much responsibility;
Trusted that their teens
could also be responsible.
Mother looks around at her teens
now grown, with children
of their own;
Happy, healthy, responsible children.
Maybe "live-and-let-live"
wasn't so bad after all.
What should the parents have done?
"Grounded"
"Restricted"
"Punished"
"Indulged"
Values explored at the dinner table--
Values, stretching, changing, growing.
Parents disagreeing,
moving apart
coming together
still together
Going on 44 years now.
Some values must have seeped through.
"Dumb luck;
not good management."
Maybe;
Maybe love, trust, prayers.
Maybe luck.
