In which I avoid the heat by walking two miles at 5 a.m., and write a couple little haikuverses.
A Haiku Morning

It was so beautiful at 5 a.m. today. The brisk walk along the lake, with the wispy clouds overhead turning a lovely pink, was as refreshing to my soul as my body. Traffic was minimal on the highway, and most of the village was sleeping. It was just me and the birds.

There was an occasional splashing sound in the lake. It took me several minutes to realize that the dark shadows I saw moving were creating the sound. I think they may have been muskies. If so, they stayed quietly, just a shadow moving along the glassy lake, and then--splash! The shadow would disappear for an instant, the water surface disturbed, and it would reappear several yards away.

Every once in a while, the shadows ( I saw at least 6 distinct ones) would move very swiftly, and then drift slowly until a new splash. It was fascinating to imagine what creature could be making this mysterious scene.
