This Farmers' Almanac saying was certainly true at the beginning of this week. We had zero and below zero weather. The temperature didn't rise above 12 and 14 during the day. For only the second time this winter, I had to turn on the kitchen heat.
But today is warmer, in the 30's and tomorrow will be even warmer. This break in the bitter cold is more than welcome. On the way home from the 4th Street Cafe' today, I saw more bare ground than snow, and the enormous piles that are left are "honeycombing", a sure sign of spring.
And it can't come too soon for me. I have been in a mild depression all winter. I know I have that disease that is caused by lack of light (why can't I remember what the acronym, SAD, stands for?), but the blues were stronger than usual this year. I'm not too happy that we are changing to DST this weekend, as it will be dark when I leave for church again.
The economic news is so gloomy; the fighting on capital hill has begun already; gas prices are on the rise again; and we are in the church season of Lent. So I guess I can be glad my mild depression is just that...mild.
4th Street Cafe' was a bright spot today, as usual. Grace was her usual cheerful self and Joseph his usual gracious host-self. The "conspiracy" person was there, but we kind of double-teamed him, so he couldn't spread his usual gloom and doom. I know he needs to have an audience, and we are about the only group left who welcomes him, but still he can be a real downer.
The good news is that DB is finally getting better (although the doctor left a message today that he wants a couple more tests done). Also, DJ has two plays going to Broadway, and my oldest grandson finally awarded a DOD contract that he has worked on for a year. And Lyra is plugging along with her doctoral work. And Lydia is happily living and working in Chile' with her boyfriend.
Life truly IS good, thanks be to God
I'm getting back into the swing of posting. I was able to post a link to this site on the COF board. Now I have to remember how to have the date of my new postings show up on the initial page. And I have to develop a routine of posting.
