~Email Me!~

9:54 PM It's Friday night and I am HOME! DB and I went out for dinner and met 1. our priests (Mr and Mrs) celebrating their anniversary, 2. one of the staff from the infant center, and 3. my office "roomie". We had time to talk briefly with all of them, have coffee with roomie, and actually were out until 9:30 p.m. Amazing!

With Fall Colors Comes the Cold

Brrr! We haven't turned on the furnace yet, because I want it checked out and cleaned before we do. And it has been a cold fall so far. The Dollhouse is much warmer, as we can run the little furnace there and it warms up quickly. DB is planning to check the chimney tomorrow if we don't get the snow that is predicted, and get a fire in the woodstove going if everything's all right.

I've always loved our woodstove, but with us working, it is not practical anymore. It is an old Earth Stove, with a wide flat top that I can cook on. When we had it going all the time, I cooked everything but bread and fried foods on it, even though it is in the middle of the living room. And the house always smelled so good.

DB doesn't really want to get back into cutting, chopping and hauling logs again, but if the natural gas is really going to go up 30%, like they are predicting, and if we have a hard winter, we may run it in the evenings and on the weekends to help with the cost of fuel. We have a bit of wood from the limbs that our old split-leafed maples shed every year, so we could manage a few days with that.

The leaves are really turning on the sugar maples, including my young "sunset" maple I planted 5 years ago. I had to drive up the lake to a meeting today, and even in the grey and gloomy mist the colors were beautiful. I bet it's wonderful out at Pretty Bay.

We'll go out tomorrow to clean out the food cupboards and defrost the refrigerator. I took down all the curtains last week, and they are now clean and packed away until next spring, along with the bed linens and the towels. The fridge is the last job I have, except for a final vacuuming (which takes about 10 minutes in that little space). DB, however, still has 1/2 of the RV to wash, and all the windows on the outside. Then it has to dry thoroughly so that we can put the cover on it. He'll need a sunny day for all that, and that is definitely not the weatherman's plan for this weekend.

I have Monday off...hooray! I plan to make some inroads in this house. I am looking forward to puttering around and vacuuming and taking down a summer's worth of cobwebs. Things must be pretty bad for ME to look forward to housework! And I hope to take a long walk up the lake. I'm back to trying to get a walk in after work, and I miss my longer walks. Even if it rains on Monday, I plan to get out and walk.

Life is good.
