If you have a chance, check out the Lighthouse site on "Rant & Rejoice's" entry today. I'm sorry I don't know how to link it to this entry, but if you visit Pantalaimon's site, you will find this journal.
Weird Weather

This is a VERY STRANGE weather day. Just now, there are dark clouds moving very swiftly, over an underlay of sunny blue sky. On the NW horizon is an ominous blackness that makes me think I better get off this computer! About 5 minutes ago, the sun was beautiful, and a rainbow appeared in the NE. About 40 minutes ago, there was good-sized hail clattering against my window at work. 60-mile-an-hour gusts are predicted, and although that hasn't happened yet, the wind is whipping pretty hard in the tops of the tallest trees.

It's later now, and nothing untoward happened, just some lightening and the wind. It is still blowing fiercely out there, and finding its way into the cracks in this room, which was originally a sunporch and still has characteristics of a porch, even though it now has heat.

Right this minute I can't find any evidence of said heat, however, and my hands are freezing.

The lighthouse site I visited through Rant & Rejoice was a wonderful trip. One of my favorite lighthouses is on an island off the coast of New Brunswick (actually, more directly off Maine, although it is in Canadian waters)named Grand Manan. The lighthouse is named Swallowtail. I wish I had the equipment to scan in a photo of this proud old girl. I love the whole island and would choose this as my retirement island, but DB wants someplace warmer.

The last time we visited, just three years ago, the lighthouse keeper's cottage had been turned into a Bed and Breakfast. We made arrangements to stay there, and were their first guests! Another family arrived while we were there, but it felt like we owned the place.

Getting there is a feat of balance and endurance. You have to go down about 40 steps, across a bridge over a chasm, then what felt like a quarter of a mile on foot to the house...all carrying your luggage. So the people who stay there have to be hearty characters, but oh, how it is worth it! And outside my window was Swallowtail. Heaven on earth, indeed.

I have posted some little poems about Swallowtail on my poetry page. If you love lighthouses, you may enjoy them.
