As fans mourn the cancellation of Hercules: The Legendary Journey's, Kevin Sorbo has signed to star in a new fantasy series. In a deal with Tribune Entertainment, Sorbo will choose between two new shows developed by the late Star Trek Creator Gene Roddenberry. Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda follows the adventures of scientist Alexander Grange, who finds himself rensported into the middle of gigantic war, 500 years in the future. Developed by Mainframe, the company behind the computer generated series ReBoot, Gene Roddenberry's Starship centres on a team of interplanetary explorers and troubleshooters, led by Captain Dylan Huny. The deal will give Sorbo part ownership of whichever project he selects, together with an element of creative control. Sorbo's show will be co-executive produced by his manager, Eric Gold, and offered for cable and network broadcasts, but will likely be shown in syndication from autumn 2000. The final eight episode season of Hercules is due to end on 15 November. As a result, Studios USA has turned to series producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi to devise a mid-season replacement for the show. Under current plans, the vacant one hour timeslot will be used to test two new half-hour series from Renaissance Pictures. Created by The Pretender and Sliders' Eric Moss, Jack of All Trades is a swashbuckling period adventure series. Set on a Caribean island in 1699, the show centres on an aristocrtic British secret agent, Jack Styles, who is partnered with working class agent Emilia. Cleopatra 2525 is the brainchild of Rob Tapert and RJ Stweart. The show chronicales the adventures of an actress and exotic dancer cryogenically frozen in 2001. Revived in 2525 by two female warriors, Cara and Sarge, the heroine finds a world controlled by evil robots, and populated almost entirely by women. Casting is due to begin shortly on the new shows, which will debut on 17 January next year. Dreamwatch Magazine - Summer ‘99 Issue # 59
