DE MUSIC BIO

David's music has been broadcast worldwide, including the National Radio of Argentina, Radio ROKS in Moscow, and the Foundation Gaudeamus in the Netherlands. His recordings include Four Preludes for Piano [Jeff Jacob, pianist, Contemporary American Eclectic Music for the Piano, Ariel CD #AE 001, 1995], Crossover for Orchestra [Slovak Radio Symphony, MMC New Century - Volume 1, CD #MMC 2015, 1995], and Exit for Trumpet and Tape [Jack Logan, trumpet, New Music for Trumpet, Orion #ORS 7294, 1972]. He was also pianist for the Crown Heights Affair Sure Shot album [De-Lite #DSR 9517, 1979].

A multiplicity of musical styles is reflected in reviews of David's music. Fanfare describes Crossover as

an enjoyable essay on tropical rhythms a la Cole Porter. It is slinky and sensuous, the sort of thing that could easily get cheap, but pulls through with grace and wit.
The Music Connoisseur writes that Crossover
uses natural big band jazz colors, and thus remains true to its title.

Many of David's instrumental tracks are published by DSM Productions in New York, and he has worked extensively with artist Ernest Garthwaite to create sound-environments for exhibits throughout the United States and Canada. He has realized a MIDI arrangement of William Grant Still's Rising Tide for the Queens Museum of Art [Panorama Month 1999] website [www.utma.org/news.htm]. David has also provided underscores for many York College Theater productions, including The Colored Museum, Antigone, Tartuffe, and Hits from Shakespeare, while his 'concert' music has been performed at numerous festivals across the country [Crane Festival of New Music, Memphis State Festival of New Music, SEAMUS, SCI, Foundation Gaudeamus].

David has a Ph.D. in music composition from Rutgers University (1978), has been visiting lecturer in jazz at Harvard University (1977), and is currently Professor of Music and Coordinator of the Music Discipline at York College (CUNY), where he teaches composition, computer music and music theory. He is a member of BMI and The Society of Composers & Lyricists.
