I’m 42 (and holding – but I had such a great time at my 40th birthday party
that I think I’m going to start counting backwards with this birthday
[August 29] and have another 40th party in 2000); married to a great guy
(Ron) and between us we have six kids. Stacey (28 – his), Tim (26 – his),
Shaun (21 – mine), Aaron (18 – his), Amy (18 – mine), and Keith (12 – ours).
We’ve been married for almost 15 years – which is longer than his first
marriage lasted, longer than my first marriage lasted, and we only knew each
other for 19 days (yup, 19 days) when we got married.
We met on a blind
date and it really wasn’t love at first sight but it was close. When he
proposed one week after our initial date I just knew I was supposed to marry
him. Ron adopted my older kids when Keith was 6 months old.
We also have four grandchildren (Stacey and Tim each have two kids), Mariah,
Faith, Shelby, and Hayden. Mariah and Faith belong to Stacey and love to
come over to help Grandma Teresa make soap (I do M&P with them).
I got started making soap in early Spring 1998 to see if I could find
something to help Keith’s skin (and mine). He’s allergic to just about
every detergent and soap on the market. His skin breaks out with little
bumps and I just can’t get them cleared up. Now that he’s starting to hit
the wonderful puberty years it’s only going to get tougher to clear up. His
skin has improved since we’ve started this route but he still has a way to
go.
I love making soap and my shower is full of this-and-that. I finally had to
get an old-fashioned enamel tub, which I put a drain board in, to hold all
the soap. I just have to try everything and never know what soap I want to
use. I have very dry skin and usually have to use a lot of lotion in the
winter, but not this past winter! My skin has stayed really nice and my
lotion bill has gone down!
My husband and I are part of a gospel music group with his ex-wife (Karen)
(we’re great friends with his ex-wife and her husband) and daughter...
and we
offer a musical ministry to the nursing home where Karen’s mom lives.
