Penny's FO Seize tip

WONDERFUL tip from Penny; about fo's seizing your CP soap (THANKS Penny):

Hi Everyone,

I was just reading the posts about the fo's giving everyone a hard time and seizing up. For some reason the recipe that I like to use causes my fo's to seize up frequently. I have found a way around it and can now continue to use those fo's that I thought I would have to get rid of because of this problem.

I mix my soap till it seems like it is just going to start to trace. I add my coloring to the soap and continue to mix till a very light trace. At that point I add the Fo and mix for as long as I can before it has become to difficult to stir. This is usually just a matter of 30 seconds or so....far to quick to mix and get into a mold. I do this to just make sure that the fo's are mixed in. Then just let it seize away in your pot. Some times it freezes with the spoon stuck in it :) Wait about 5 minutes or a bit longer and the soap will go into gel stage in the pot. At that point give it a good stir and glop it into the mold. Put a piece of waxed paper over the top and smooth out as best as you can. Press down really well to force the soap into the corners and to get it smooth. Then just cover with a towel and let it finish going through the gel stage. The next day cut it like you would any other soap. Sometimes it may need a bit of trimming along one edge but most of the time they aren't that bad looking.

I have usually even been able to swirl my seized soaps by removing about 2 cups of soap before I have added any coloring. Once the seized soap is going to gel in the pot I color the soap I removed. After you have smoothed the top of the soap out in the mold just lift up the waxed paper, drizzle the soap over the top, stir lightly and replace the waxed paper.

That's how I deal with the fo's that cause seizing. If I didn't like the recipe that I use I would play around with it to find one that didn't make some of the fo's seize. Hope that helps.

Penny
