Who The Devil...my music
CD Mountain...
I must admit that I am a fiend for cds...
here is a list of what I've bought lately...
ONE STARRY NIGHT-Kevin Yost
:So one of my favorite house producers/DJs has finally released a full length and
I'm in utter awe. Yost dwells on the chilled, more musical sound of house using a
lot of live percussion, piano, and guitar. An essential disc for anyone who likes
deep and chilled out house. My favorite tunes include- "One Starry Night", "If She
Only Knew," and "Unpredictable"
STOCKHOLM-The Persuader
:A very fine product of Sweden, Svek records comes cross with a brilliant little album
of groovy, funky house. For some reason, all the cds I've been buying lately have been
in this vein, but, um...anyway. This too, showcases the producers talent of creating
house with some serious live undertones...wait until you hear the BASS!!! My favorite tunes
include-"Djurgardsbron," "Vasastaden," and "Kungsbron."
UNFILTERED SKY-Sunkiss
:Another excellent release from the Plastic City stable. From the combined efforts of David
Alvarado and Kenneth Graham, UNFILTERED SKY is a deep, tech-house masterpiece. Though much harder
than previous Plastic City releases, this disc has an extremely furnished quality to the production
helping to create a wicked vibe throughout the whole full length....really nice deep house and
techno. My favorite tunes include- "Trickle," "Contact," "Reach," and "Helios."
May Records...
Some outstanding drum-n-bass has come out lately.
These tunes are what I'm playing out at the moment...
STATE OF MIND/TRANSMISSION-Big Bud-Good Looking records
:I must admit, Big Bud is kind of hit or miss. I didn't particullary care for his EP and his contribution
to Logical Progression 3 (save "Freedom"). His Good Looking singles have been nice however, and this is no
exception. "Transmission" is a very deep, kind of punishing roller. It is a tad on the dark mood side, a
definite new look for Big Bud. The flip, "State of Mind" is a personnal favorite of mine...I'm just a sucker
for the female vocal sample. I really got into the catchy little amen breaks thrown in for good measure, and
of course I can't leave out the ripping, dance-floor shaking bass line. Really wicked.
TIMESHIFT/COMPONENTS-Future Engineers-Looking Good Records
:An utter masterpiece from the Future Engineers. I nearly lost my cargo when I heard "Timeshift" on PS3 and
I have been anxiously awaiting it's release on vinyl..."Components" is a nice one as well...great melodies!
FAIRLIGHT/DESERT TRAVELLER-Artemis-Looking Good Records
:ok...so most people have been accusing this of being too lightweight, but I'm really into
"Desert Traveller." I must say "Fairlight" is pretty standard though...it sounds way to much
like previous Artemis tunes that just didn't do it for me. The break is kind of annoying too.
PLANETARY FUSION/REMENISCE-DP-Cadence
:Pretty standard basic atmospheric tunes from Dave Parkinson who is one half of the Funky Technicians, Total
Science, TQ-1, Hieroglyphx, etc...(when do the alliaces stop!!!). For the most part, a fairly good single.
MUTHAFUNKER/INTERCHANGE-Fellowship-Audio Couture
:yeah well, I've gotta get my jazzy stuff in. I've actually been picking up quite a bit of jazzy licks.
Every now and again, I've got to represent the sound. So this is a nice one from Fellowship that has actually
been hyped for a while. "Muthafunker" has been on every DJs wish list for a while now...funky as hell!
SON OF KOJAK/FUNKY FEEL GOOD-Funk Inc.-Renegade Recordings
:Gee, could this one been some funky jazz? Um...yes. Quite nice!
AZURE/SNIPER-Trace-DSCI4
:The Debut release from Trace's new DSCI4 imprint. Quite wicked. "Sniper" is a hard as hell, groaning, classic No-U-Turn
style roller. Oh my word, some amen business...nice, but a bit too hard for me. "Azure" is the winner. Trace has
really come back to form with this ethereal roller. Very steppy, very deep. Trace has been working with Pete Parsons (Voyager)
so I'm not suprised at the gorgeous sound the two have come up with. Nice One!
TELEVISION
OK...cut me some slack, we all watch TV...what do you watch?
THE SIMPSONS
:no question, the greatest show ever made, end of
story.
CONAN O'BRIEN
:Conan and Andy are excellent...they come up with THE funniest stuff ever, definitely the best talk show around.
7TH HEAVEN
:this one sucks! It is so awful, yet I must watch it
everyweek to see what kind of lame problems go on with
this next generation brady bunch
X-FILES
:How wicked was it when the smoking man shot his own
son!?! I've been watching this since it came out when
I was a freshman in high school...I dunno, I just dig
it.
THE CROCODILE HUNTER
:do I even need to say anything? Steve Irwin and his big rump attack every animal within a few hundred kilometers...my favorite part ever was when they were watching the tortoises hump and their boat capsized in the waves.
FAMILY GUY
: I was skeptical at first, but I've really grown to enjoy this animated comedy blood bath...I must say though, I wish
FOX would make a few more animated sitcoms...
