“Up to Date”

The door bell rang of the rather large and elegant apartment. 24 year old Emily Grayson walked over to the door, pushed a button on the control panel and the door opened. A girl wearing a yellow skirt, red shirt, and red and yellow boots. Emily welcomed the girl into the apartment and the two walked into the living area and sat down on some chairs around a coffee table that had a plate of food on it.

“So, Em, how are things. I need to be updated,” the girl said.

“When’s the last time you were updated Lisa?” Emily asked her

“When you, Terry, and Gramps found out who Green Lantern, Robin, and Batgirl were, and everyone found out who you guys were,” Lisa answered her as she took a piece of food off the plate and placed it in her mouth. Emily smiled.

“Well you heard about Terry’s mom right?” Emily asked, Lisa nodded.

“She married some rich guy right?” Lisa asked.

“Refugio MacInnis. Well, Refugio has two kids, one is our age, Valentin, a big rich jerk. Then he has a daughter that’s Matt’s age, Brassica or something, people just call her Brass,” Emily said.

“How’s Matt doing?” Lisa asked.

“He and his mom and step dad moved into an apartment down the hall, which Terry just hates because he lives a couple of floors down now. Anyway, Matt, Brass, Shay and Danny are all 16 now and are in 11th grade at Hamilton High,” Emily said.

“But I though Shay and Danny didn’t attend school,” Lisa said as she popped another piece of food in her mouth.

“Terry and I chipped in for houses for poor kids in the New Park Row, including Danny, Shay and their older friend Jean, they go to Hamilton now,” Emily said as she picked up a piece of food and took a bite out of it.

“You and Terry getting serious?” Lisa asked amused.

“We’ve known each other for seven years and he’s never asked me out on a date,” Emily answered.

“What would you say if he did?” Lisa asked raising her eyebrow.

“Well I wouldn't say no,” Emily said grinning, Lisa giggled.

“What about everyone else?” Lisa asked her still smiling.

“Well Marlena and Egan are still in college, going for a higher degree in animation, so they’re at the dorms. Nell’s Uncle adopted David because he like the kid so now David and Nell are cousins and live down the hall from each other in an apartment building downtown. Alisa lives with her sister Mandy and is working on writing on her second book,” Emily said finishing the rest of the food in her hand.

“I remember her first book was a huge success,” Lisa said.

“Yeah, she was really surprised, never thought any one would actually like the thing. Any way, Chase is a raising star of the Gotham Quicks track team, he’s actually getting girls now. And last but not least, Adam is working for the Gotham Museum of Space, he works on the moon exhibit mostly,” Emily said. Lisa ate another piece of food off the plate. “I live here, I have a job at the Gotham Library and that’s about it,” she said.

“How’s Bruce?” Lisa asked.

“Still alive and kicking, Terry’s still scared of him,” Emily replied.

“How long to you think he has?” Lisa asked seriously. Bruce might have been an angry, mean old man, but he was the closet thing she had to a grandfather, and she loves him, and Leon loves him, and Mark loves him, and Pete loves him, and Eric loved him, even Emily loves him.

“Bruce is gonna out live all of us,” Emily said, Lisa laughed.

“We should have more talks like this,” Lisa said, Emily nodded.

“Knock knock,” they heard a voice say and heard a person walk into the room. Terry peered into the room and smiled.

“The door was open so I let myself in. Hey Lisa, how are you doing?” he asked as he walked over to them.

“Hi Terry, I’m fine, careers doing great, brothers a little weird but besides that I’m fine,” she said. He laughed as he sat down in another chair.

“How is Leon?” Terry asked.

“As well as can be expected,” she answered him.

“I talked to him a couple of days ago, bad hair cut,” Emily said, Lisa laughed.

"What are you guys talking about?" Terry asked.

“How much Emily loves you and wishes you’d ask her out and kiss her,” Lisa joked, Emily gave her an angry look.

“Oh that,” Terry said simply as if he understood it perfectly, Emily gave him an angry look too. Lisa laughed.

“Emily here was just catching me up what’s going on with the GB,” Lisa said.

“Who came up with the name anyway?” Emily asked forgetting ever being mad.

“Some newspaper, started calling us Gotham’s Best, then it just rolled into GB,” Terry answered her. The phone in Terry’s pocket rang. He pulled the phone out from his jacket pocket, opened it, and held it to his ear.

“Yeah?” he said into it, Emily and Lisa watched him.

“Yeah,” he said again and repeated it several times, then hung up and placed the phone back in his pocket.

"Mom want's to know if you would like to have dinner with us tonight," Terry asked Emily.

“Why not, I’m getting sick of take out,” Emily said.

“You still eat with your Mom?” Lisa asked Terry curiously.

“Only once a week,” Terry said and shrugged.

“Neither Terry nor I can cook worth our life,” Emily said. Terry’s phone went off again and he answered it again. He said some more ‘yeahs’ and took the phone away from his ear.

“Mom wants to know if you want peas or corn with dinner,” Terry said.

“What are we having?” she asked. He said something into the phone they looked back at Emily.

“Turkey,” he answered. She thought about it.

“Corn,” she said. he said it into the phone then hung up and placed the phone on the coffee table. He took a piece of food off the plate and ate it. The phone rang again and Terry angrily answered it.

“Yeah? Yes corn is fine with me too,” he said and hung up again. He turned to Lisa and Emily.

“It was easier living with her,” he told them, they laughed. They stopped laughing when the phone rang, again. This time Emily answered it.

“Hello, MacInnis home,” she said into it, Lisa and Terry laughed with their hands over their mouth. Emily’s smile fell off her face and her eyes widened.

“Yeah fine,” she said and hung up. Terry and Lisa looked at her curiously.

“That was Bruce,” she said and Terry and Lisa laughed hysterically.

“He wants you and Adam to take care of Inque, she escaped again. He wants me and Alisa and David to handle something else,” she told him. He nodded.

“So Marlena, Shay, Danny, and Chase have watch duty,” he said, she nodded.

“What are you guys talking about?” Lisa asked them confused.

“Bruce runs things now,” Terry said.

“Every night he assigns us jobs, the people with the right skill and knowledge handle anything big, and other people have watch duty,” Emily added.

“What’s watch duty?” Lisa asked.

“Watch duty is just going around the city stopping robberies, muggings, small stuff,” Terry said, Lisa nodded understanding.

“We gotta go, business calls,” Emily said as she stood up and was in her Blaze costume, “you can put your stuff in the guest room and stay as long as you like, see ya later Terry.” Blaze said and walked out of the room.

“Where’s she going?” Lisa asked.

“Off the balcony in her bed room,” he said, “I can’t believe he put her with David.” Lisa grinned.

“Jealous?” she asked. Terry looked at her quickly.

“No,” he answered quickly. She stood up beside him.

“Just ask her out Terry, it’s been seven years!” she told him.

“I don’t like her in that way Lisa, it’s just that David should be with Adam and I,” he said as he walked towards the door.

“Sure it is, she wouldn’t say no Terry, she told me,” Lisa said. Terry stopped, then continued walking.

“Well someone’s been hanging upside down in the cave a little to long,” she said as she angrily sat back down in the chair.
