"Everything You Knew"

By: Faita

Blaze sat on the roof, quietly watching over the city. There wasn't anything she couldn't see. She felt a breeze follow over her chin and move her hair. So much was different, but she wouldn't change it for the world, or the moon. She was who she was, even if she was alone. She was watching all the lights below move quickly along the streets. She sighed and stood up gracefully. She turned around and inhaled quickly through her mouth in surprise. Batman stood there. Shadows gave his face a frightening look. He had a cold expression on his face. "Why?" he asked her. "Why what?" she asked innocently. "Why did you come back?" he asked as if he was trying to keep from crying. "You do you care?" she demanded. He thought about. "Because I missed you," he answered. "I never left you," she said shaking her head and also holding back tears. Batman narrowed his eyes. "Who are you?" Batman asked. "Don't you know," Blaze said wiping a tear from her eye. "I know, I just want to hear you say it," Batman said. "Why?" she asked. "So I can believe it," he answered. She smiled. "Terry, I, I can't," she said and jumped off the roof. Batman ran over to the edge to try and stop her. He saw her fly down through the buildings. He didn't follow her. They would meet again, he would see to it.

"Find her?" Bruce asked as Batman walked up behind him. "Yeah," Batman said sadly taking off his mask. "Well?" Bruce asked looking at him. "She left," he answered beginning to walk away. Bruce turned the chair around. "I know where she might be," Bruce said. Terry looked at him hopefully. "Where?" Terry demanded. "Lisa is in town again, she told me Emily is going to stop by," Bruce answered simply. "Where is she going to perform and when?" Terry demanded. "Soon, at the Wasteland," Bruce said. Terry ran the name through his mind. "I got to go," Terry said and ran to change.

Terry walked through the crowd of dancing people towards the stage. He shifted his sunglasses on his face. He stopped when he reached the stage. He lowered the sunglasses on his nose and looked at the singer on the stage. She noticed him and smiled at him. He smiled back. She nodded her head over to one side of the crowd that was behind Terry. He mouthed the words 'thank you' then began to walk in the direction she had nodded. She smiled watching him walking away. Terry searched through the crowd, looking for any familiar faces, anything he thought he knew. He saw tons of happy smiling faces; he began to feel out of place. One thing did catch his eye. He knew it wasn't Emily, she was to pretty, and looked completely not like Emily. She had long dark brown hair that followed behind her as she walked. She had a blank expression on her face. She wore a dark green jacket, light brown shirt, and a black skirt that came to mid thigh. She walked through the crowed as if hiding from something. Then she turned her face to Terry; he looked right into he eyes, her soft brown eyes. He held his breath. Her eyes widened and she began to move quickly away from him. He blinked his eyes and followed her. He tried his best to keep his eyes on her, but after following her through the crowds, he eventually lost her. He continued looking through the crowds for an hour, but couldn't find her.

Terry walked down the batcave steps sadly. The chair faced the batcave and Ace was sitting at the foot of it. Terry slowly walked over to the back of chair and placed his hand on the top of it. He read the information of where Emily might be off the screen. "I saw her at the club, but I lost. Any idea where she might have gone?" Terry asked. No answer. "Bruce?" he asked worried as he turned the chair around. Emily sat there with no expression on her face, Terry's face went into shock, and he held his breath. "Hi," she said simply. Terry tried but couldn't form words. "Emily," he finally said as she stood up. He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her, she hugged him back. He rocked her back and forth squeezing her hard. His tears falling into her dark brown hair and he could feel tears falling down the back of his shirt. He smiled and set her back on the ground, which he hadn't even known she had left. He looked at her tear-ridden face, and his smile widened. "I missed you," he said. "I never left you," she smiled. A tear fell down his cheek. She used her thumb and wiped it off. "Emily, why didn't you tell me?" he asked her. She pulled away from him and began to walk away sadly. Ace stood up and followed her, Terry stood where he was and watched her. "How do you think you would have responded?" she asked him not looking at him. "I suppose I would have taken it well," Terry said. "You would not have trusted me, believed in me, and you wouldn't be this happy to see me," she said turning around. "Of course I would have," Terry said. "No!" Emily screamed with tears running down her cheeks and neck. "You don't know. If I had told you I was an alien, you would have thought I was some kind of freak! A monster! A weirdo you could never ever want to know! I thought, I thought if I used them as someone else you never would have known," Emily said. "I knew," Bruce said walking down the stairs. "I didn't think you would tell him," Emily said as Bruce walked in between the two. "Wait, wait a minute. You knew about this! And you didn't tell me!" Terry said walking over to Bruce. "It wasn't my place to," Bruce said. "What else haven't you told me?" Terry demanded. "I'm sure he told you the big secret," Emily said. "What secret?" Terry asked her. "You haven't told him!" Emily yelled at Bruce. "Told me what?" Terry asked her. "Nothing," Bruce said. "What haven't you told me!" Terry yelled. "He hasn't told you that he planned for me to come here," Emily said. "Emily stop!" Bruce yelled at her. "No Bruce, he needs to know. Bruce planned for me to come here from the very start. He planned for me to become Batgirl! He planned almost every move I made. He told me to stay in till we met the Royal Flush Gang again. Then I was supposed to leave you right then, no warning, no good byes," Emily told him. Terry looked at her, then Bruce is amazement. "He told me that I was supposed to help you make decisions on your own, help you become less dependent on him, to help you prepare for when he dies. Then leave so you would be on your own. But he forgot to tell me that it's impossible to just stop, to go out there each night and protect the city, to stop crime, then stop while you can still easily do the job," Emily said calming down. "Bruce, you planned what would happen to me, what would I feel?" Terry asked. "She wasn't supposed to become Blaze. She was just supposed to leave and never come back. That's what I told her to do, that's what I trained her to do," Bruce explained. "You trained me to well Bruce, you put to much of you into me, like you did dad. If someone had just told you to stop being Batman, would you? Would you Bruce?" Emily demanded. "No. But you're not me," Bruce told her. "But I'm enough like you," she said. "So what happens now?" Terry asked. "Ask Bruce, but I'm leaving," Emily said as she quickly walked past the two of them and out of the batcave.
