Okay Ev, here's the latest update. So, where do I start? As those closest to me know, I've had my share of personal problems lately which have kept me from updating this site, but I figured now is a good time to just do an update and get it done. I would imagine that I will let it all out in due time, but as the people who know me know it is just a twisted crazy situation which has taken on more than a life of its own. Anyway, there are a lot of other things going on in this world that affect me and probably affect you too so I wanna sound off.
As most of you wrestling fans out there probably know by now, all signs point to the death of ECW. Vince McMahon's WWF has snatched up a considerable amount of ECW's talent and WCW has made moves in the same direction. On top of all that, it appears as if Paul Heyman (aka Paul E. Dangerously) is poised to accept a position in the WWF as a color commentator/booking comittee member. Heyman exhibited his skills Monday night March 5 on Monday Night Raw and yes, he still as it. Unfortunately I think he still has some gas left in his tank of creativity, but everything he does from this point on will be subject to the rest of the committee and ultimately McMahon. On top of all that, the Sunday, March 11 pay per view was officially cancelled. This is definately a sad day in the sport of pro wrestling and I for one am taking it hard. What will become of guys like Balls Mahoney, Simon Diamond, Little Spike Dudley, Julio Dinero, Mikey Whipwreck, just to name a few? Truthfully it sucks.
Speaking of terrible situations in the wrestling business, everyone is up-in-arms over the WWF's firing of The Kat and the subsequent resignation of Jerry "The King" Lawler. I totally agree Lawler did not have the oppurtunity to go out like a king and McMahon was his usual prick-self, but Lawler is too well-recognized and talented to be out of the imelight for too long. I suspect if given his release (as he claimed McMahon promised), he will be a big part of WCW's rebirth as part of a revampd broadcast team. Speaking of that, don't be suprised if you see Joey Styles and Cyrus (Don Callis) in the WCW mix as well.
Now that reminds me of something else that just happened a few hours prior to the writing of this column. It seems as if WCW was so impressed with Jason B. (ECW's E-Z Money) in his debut on Thunder that they decided to sign him. Cool, but in order to do so, WCW felt it was necessary to cut another salary in order to make it an even financial deal. Who did they cut? Lex Loser? Road Warrior Animal? Rick Steiner? None of the above. The victim in this case was Crowbar (Devon Storm). I can't believe a company looking to reorganize would cut such a great young talent, especially one who can fit either the cruiserweight division (which they are hell bent on pushing) or the heavyweight division. Normally I would say WCW's loss is WWF's gain, but McMahon is so overstocked with talent that I doubt he would have much interest in Crowbar. Of course this brings me right back to the closing of ECW. Without a third major office in this country, many talented young wrestlers who deserve to work on a regular basis with television and pay per view coverage may never have the oppurtunity to refine their skills and continue their careers. Again, it sucks.
