I Saw

(3-19-99)

Two steps back
I saw her face
The beauty; the fear
The sadness; the misery

From a distance
I saw her eyes
The beauty; the fear
The sadness; the misery

Across the way
I saw her smile
The beauty; the façade
The joy; the misery

From the window
I saw her move
The beauty; the grace
The pain; the misery

And from the shadows
I saw her soul
The beauty; the love
The fear; the misery

Through the mirror
I saw myself
Battered; torn
The pain; the misery

And to my left
I see my past
Vague; distorted
Painful; miserable

But to my right
I see ahead
The love; the woes
The challenge; the misery

Below me
I see his face
Satan; the devil
My demon; my lover

I look into
His eyes; licks of flames
The hell; the pain
The everlasting fear and misery

Devil, bastard
Fucked my mind
Filled my soul with the pain
The fear; the misery

I cast him aside
And fall to burning tears
A child; uncertain; alone
Forever unloved.
