Description: Kareem Said has been a handful ever since he first arrived at Oz. Said told Warden Glynn during their first meeting that Oz was under his control now, and incinuated that he would start a riot. Said was also responsible for the change of Jefferson Keane (who after his Muslim conversion changed his name to Tizzy Ozoue) and comforted him before he recieved the lethal injection. Said was then diagnozed with Hypertention, yet refused to take any medication. After having several close calls, and after being left for dead by Husani Mershaw, Said agreed to take the medication given to him by Doctor Nathan. Husani Mershaw, another Muslim inmate who was frustrated by the lack of action Said was taking against the other alliances, was then confronted by Said and was exiled from the Muslims, for leaving Said to die. After recieving a gun in his laundry from a guard who was an admirer of his, Said assumed control after the riot that rocked Oz broke out, and distributed the power equally between himself, Simon Adebisi, Miguel Alvarez, Scott Ross and Ryan O'Reily.

Said was placed in solitary confinement for his role as a leader during the riot. Badly beaten by the guards, Said was originally accused of shooting Tim McManus since the bullet found in McManus came from the gun that a guard had given to Said. Said explained that he threw the gun over the side of the control center when the S.O.R.T team launched their attack. It turned out Scott Ross picked up the gun and shot McManus. Said and the rest of the riot leaders were released when it was determined by Alvah Case that nobody was fully responsible for the riot. Said's book about the riot was printed and it became a hot literary item at Oz. McManus was upset with the way he was portrayed in Said's book. Said started studying law in hopes of finding a way to use the system against itself. When it was reported that the judge that sentenced Augustus Hill was taking bribes from defendants, Said represented Hill and tried to get Hill's verdict overturned. Said lost his cool when he had to plead his case to Marilyn Crenshaw- his ex-fiance. Said was unsucessful in getting Hill released from Oz. Said was not disillusioned by this and continued to study the law. McManus had Coushaine tape some of Poet's poems and then transcribed them. McManus asked Said to send them to the company that published his book. Said, although feeling as though he was being used for his "celebrity status" agreed and within weeks Poet's poetry was published in "Unheard America". Many poets began calling for Poet's parole file to be overlooked and for a parole hearing to held. Poet was granted parole and was issued an immediate release from Oz. Vern Schillinger presented Said with an offer. Vern said that by Said representing him in his trial for conspiracy to commit murder, Said would prove that he is trying to get justice for every man in Oz regardless of race or beliefs. Said saw soon after the preliminary trial that the case is so strong against Schillinger that there is no hope of escaping the invetiable. Poet was arrested for killing a drug dealer at an autograph signing who was coming to collect deliquent debts. Said is disgusted with Poet and feels that there is no hope for this man. Governor Devlin granted Said clemency in observence of Ramadan. Said refused to take this gift from a man such as Devlin. Said walked back into Oz to recieve a standing ovation from every inmate.
