Les Demoiselles ont eu 25 ans Agnès Varda. 1992. With Catherine Deneuve,
Michel Legrand, Jacques Perrin and Bertrand Tavernier. Twenty- five years after the filming of Les Demoiselles de Rochefort by Jacques Demy, his widow interviews the original film's surviving contributors.
French director André Téchiné is acclaimed for his stylish psychological thrillers, which draw their emotional power from the choices the characters make to compensate for their personal failures and weaknesses rather than from spectacular plot turns. The film, Téchiné's third for producer Alain Sarde, opened at Cannes. His male lead, Daniel Auteuil, had already got his 'ticket' to the Festival Palais through the selection of Jaco Van Dormael's Le huitième jour (The Eighth Day). Rendezvous, earned him a best director award at Cannes in 1985. Originally a critic with Cahiers du Cinéma, the 53-year-old Téchiné made his filmmaking debut in 1977 with Pauline s'en va (Pauline is Leaving), starring Bulle Ogier, the Swiss sex siren. In 1978, his Les Soeurs Brontë (The Brontë Sisters) was distinguished by the fact it comprised the sole dramatic outing of literary theorist Roland Barthes in the role of William Thackeray. Téchiné has played an integral part in the careers of leading French actors and actresses - Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani and Auteuil; but he has also cast unknowns in such films as Les Roseaux Sauvages, which won him three Césars - the French Oscars - for Best Film, Best Director, and Most Promising New Actress; the film was based on his teenage years during the Algerian war.

Vie rêvée des anges, La (1998)
Cast: Élodie Bouchez, Natacha Régnier, Grégoire Colin
The title translates as "The life dreamed of by angels" Erick Zonca, who also helped write the screenplay, has established himself as a master of his craft with his first film. He picks up on his compatriots' film style of the 90s, but goes his own passionate way with it. At Cannes, internationally celebrated Élodie Bouchez, who played a lead role in the film Wild Hearts and Natacha Régnier from Encore shared the award for Best Actress. The film is the French nominee to the 1999 Academy Awards. Grégoire Colin, from the festival hit Nénette et Boni stands out as an unpalatable representative of the male sex. Anyone wanting to experience, after so long, a film which changes the direction of cinema should not miss The Dreamlife of Angels.
Summary: A woman's destructive sexual and emotional obsession with men threatens her friendship with another woman . Destitute Isabelle, Isa for short (Élodie Bouchez) makes and sells home-made cards on the streets. She meets Marie (Natacha Régnier) and, with nowhere else to go, moves in with her. Together Marie and Isa go round Paris, sometimes having to talk their way into clubs rather than having to pay. In this way Marie enters into a series of sexual relationships with men in which mutual attraction is not evident and with which it would be unwise to have emotional ties. Isa sees her short but intense friendship with Marie start to break up as Marie slips further and further into a dangerous world which is relentlessly destroying her... Zonca has captured a particular way of life led (here) by women, which leads to destruction. Release dates: Germany: October 15th, '98, US: March 5th, '99, UK: October 16th, '98, France: 16.
