Doctrine of the Lamb

Doctrine of the Lamb

By Pastor Michael West

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING OF MANS HISTORY, GOD PERSONALLY ESTABLISHED THE PROPER AND ONLY MEANS OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HIMSELF AND HUMINTY.

Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. FOR GOD SLEW INCENT ANIMALS TO MAKE A COVERING FOR ADAMS SIN AND NAKEDNESS. SINCE THAT TIME ALL WORSHIP OF JEHOVAH OF THE BIBLE INVOLVES PRAISE, OBEDINCE,AND SACRIFICE BY BLOOD TO COVER (ATONE) FOR SIN.

WE CAN TRACE THIS ALL THROUGH THE BIBLE. ABLE,NOAH,ABRAHAM MOSES,THE TABERNACLE,THE TEMPLE AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST,THE LAMB OF GOD. WHO FULFILLED ALL FORMER TYPES WITH HIS OWN SACRIFICIAL BLOOD ON THE CROSS. PRESENTLY THEREFORE SIN IS NOT MERELY COVERED BUT TAKEN AWAY, WE ARE CLEANSED,REDEEMED AND MADE WHOLE. THIS TEACHING IS ETERNAL FOR GOD HAD ESTABLISHED IT FROM THE BEGINNING.

OUR LORD JESUS IS THE LAMB OF GOD THAT TAKES THE SINS OF THE WORLD. A BASIC ANALYSIS:

1.THE LAMB IS AN EMBLEM OF MEEKNESS,SO JESUS WAS LED AS ALAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER (CROSS)

Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

2.THE DAILY SACRIFICE EVERY MORNING AND EVENING WAS ALWAYS PERFORMED WITH A LAMB, A TYPE OF CHRIST AS THE EVERLASTING PROPITIATION.

Exo 29:38 Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar; two lambs of the first year day by day continually.

3. THE PASSOVER LAMB A TYPE OF CHRIST.

1 Cor 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

4. AS THE LAMB OF GOD, JESUS TAKES THE SIN OF THE WORLD.

Heb 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

5. AS THE LAMB THE OF GOD JESUS IS IN CONTINUAL INTERCESSION AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER.

Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

IN THIS CONNECTION ,MAY WE CLEARLY UNDERSTAND THAT THE LEGAL SACRIFICES OF THE O.T. HAD REFERENCE TO THE SINS OF ISREAL . BUTT JESUS OUR LAMD WAS OFFERED FOR THE PROPITATION FOR THE SINS OF THE WORLD.

1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

FOR JESUS CAME TO TAKE OUR SINS AWAY TO CLAIM US FOR HIS OWN.

1. THIS DOCTRINE IS PROGRESSIVE

A. ABLE AND THE LAMB

Gen 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

B. ISAAC AND THE LAMB

Gen 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

C.PASSOVER AND THE LAMB

Exo 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

Exo 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

Exo 12:7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

D.THE LEVITICAL LAMB

Lev 22:19 Ye shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the beeves, of the sheep, or of the goats.

Lev 22:20 But whatsoever hath a blemish, that shall ye not offer: for it shall not be acceptable for you.

Lev 22:21 And whosoever offereth a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD to accomplish his vow, or a freewill offering in beeves or sheep, it shall be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish therein.

E. ISAIAH AND THE LAMB

Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

F. JOHN THE BAPTIST AND THE LAMB

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

G. PHILIP AND THE LAMD

Acts 8:31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

Acts 8:32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

Acts 8:33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

Acts 8:34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

H. PETER AND THE LAMB

1 Pet 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

1 Pet 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1 Pet 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

1 Pet 1:21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

I. THE LAMB ENTHRONED

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Rev 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

Rev 5:7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the hrone.

Rev 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.Rev 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

J. THE GLORY OF THE LAMB

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

2. THIS DOCTRINE IS EXPANDING

A.THE LAMB IS FOR SIN

Heb 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

B.THE LAMB IS FOR ONE

Gen 22:11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

Gen 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

Gen 22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

C.THE LAMB IS FOR FAMILY

Exo 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:

D. THE LAMB IS FOR THE WORLD

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

E. THE LAMD IS FOR UNIVERSE

Rev 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

3. THIS DOCTRINE REVEALS CENTRALITY OF THE LAMB

A.CENTRAL AMONG SINNERS

Isa 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

B.CENTRAL IN HEAVEN

Rev 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

C. CENTRAL AMONG THE REDEEMED IN GLORY

Rev 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

IN CLOSING:
