Consequences

"Dad?" Dawson said.

"Yeah, in here." his father answered.

" Did you happen to see Joey and I a little while ago?"

"Yeah, I did. And I'm gonna do you a favor and spare you that famous father/son birds and the bees talk. I understand that you and Joey love each other, and I know that you are both responsible individuals. I also know that you are mature and will do the right thing."

"Thanx. Not only for trusting us, but for sparing me that awful talk!"

"No problem, I was once your age too. And, if when I was your age, if I had been as in love with someone as you are with Joey then I definitely would have.............."

"Please Dad, don't elaborate!"

Dawson walked up the stairs with a smile on his face, just thinking about the fact that his dad trusted him, and that the woman he loved was just a few steps away. As he entered his room, he found a very nervous Joey.

"Well, am I about to become the opposite of Jen? Am I being sent to New York cuz I'm a terrible slut?"

"No, the reverse actually. My dad totally trusts us cuz he knows that we love each other and are both responsible."

"Seriously?" Joey asked.

"Come on Joey. This is the man who can't keep his hands off my mom and who's motto is: ‘anytime, anyplace’."

"Well then, is there anyone else's approval we need? Pacey? Jen?"

"No, but what about Bessie"?

"Right now I don't think Bessie remembers my name, she's so busy dealing with Rosemary's Baby."

"Well, we got that covered. But do you really think we are ready?"

"I don't know Jo, I mean we do love each other. It's not like it would be just a one night thing, or like we were nymphomaniacs or anything like that. Maybe we oughtta just let things happen naturally."

"Yeah right, like you don't already have a script forming in your mind. I know you better than that!"

"OK, you got me. Why don't we just go to the ruins tonight and watch the stars." Dawson already had a script forming that involved him, candles, music, moonlight, and the woman he loved.

"Sure, sounds perfect" Joey said lovingly.

"It's a date then. I'll pick you up about 7, K?"

"K, should we go casual or formal?"

" Lets go casual in case we fall in the fountain or something!" Dawson said jokingly.

"Don't you go getting any ideas Dawson Leery." I gotta go to work at the Icehouse, but I'll see you tonight."

With that she kissed him goodbye and climbed out the window and into her rowboat.

The minute he knew she was gone Dawson laid down on his bed and smiled. He was so in love, his life was perfect. Suddenly, reality hit him. There was a chance that when he woke up the next morning, he and Joey would no longer be virgins, and would have become as close as two people can possibly get. And then, Dawson freaked.

The perfect angel inside of him was afraid that they weren't ready, and he would be taking advantage of her. However, the devil inside of him told him that she was the most perfect creature on earth, and she would probably take advantage of him, a thought that he enjoyed a lot.

Dawson started getting ready for his date. He grabbed a blanket, some candles, his CD player, some CD's, and on impulse, a condom that Pacey had once given him. He put it all inside of his duffel bag and tried to figure out what to wear for his perfect date. He settled on a pair of Khaki pants and a navy polo shirt. While standing in his closet he heard a very familiar voice behind him. Without even turning around he automatically said, "Hey Pace, what's up?"

"Nothing much. You?"

"Well nothing, unless you count the fact that I am madly in love and am currently planning the perfect night, if you get my drift."

"Hang on a sec here. Are you implying that first of all, you and Joey finally admitted your feelings for each other, and secondly that you and her are gonna...."

"Yep, that's exactly what I'm saying. But, I swear if you tell a soul, your family will soon be one person smaller." Dawson said, dead serious.

"OK, I swear. And honestly, I'm very happy for both of you." Pacey said sincerely.

"Thanx Pace. Now help me, I'm totally freaking out. Tonight there is a chance that I will have sex with my best friend. You've done this before, any advice?"

"Yeah, make sure your best friend isn't videotaping it and hiding 20 feet away. And, make sure it's not a felony like mine was!" Pacey said sarcastically.

"Seriously Pace, what if I freak or she laughs or something?"

"Trust me Dawson, it will all happen naturally."

"Thanx Obi-Wan."

"Anytime Luke, but I think you need to be alone with your thoughts now."

"Bye, Pacey, thanx again."

Meanwhile, at the Icehouse Joey was floating on a cloud. Tonight would be the best night of her life. She was formulating a script in her mind as well. It involved her, wearing her new red spaghetti strap tank top, and black shorts, Dawson wearing khakis and a pullover, and them laying on the ground watching the stars together. She was nervous about what might happen, but she was so in love she didn't even care. She didn't even hear Bessie calling her.

"JOEY!!!!!" Bessie screamed.

"What? why are you yelling?"

"Cuz you didn't hear me the first twenty times I called your name. Do you have something on your mind?"

"Yeah, I guess I do."

"Let me guess, Dawson Leery."

"Am I that obvious?"

"Joey, you've been floating around here all day smiling, and humming ‘here comes the bride’. I took a shot."

"Tonight we are gonna go watch the meteor shower out at the ruins." Joey informed her sister. Bessie just smiled a knowing smile, and went on with her work.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later that evening, Dawson went to Joey's to pick her up for their date. Bodie answered the door and told him to have fun. When Dawson saw Joey his jaw hit the floor. He had no idea someone could look so angelic wearing a tank top and shorts, but Joey did. She kissed him hello, and they left hand in hand. When they reached the ruins, Joey found that a blanket, candles, dinner, and a CD player had already been set up.
"I knew that you had a script in your mind, I just knew it." she said, laughing.
"So I'm predictable, it's an admirable quality."
"Really, you have so few."
"Hey!" he ran and started tickling her until they fell on the blanket.
"Daws-", "Jo-" they both said at the same time.
"You go first Joey"
"Lets not do this yet. We still have to eat and watch the stars, remember? Don't force things."
"Sure, let's eat."
They ate the delicious dinner of Caesar salads, strawberries, and cheesecake that Dawson had packed and laid back to watch the meteor shower. "Look, a shooting star!" Joey exclaimed.
"Did you make a wish?"
"Of course, let's just see if it will come true."
As if on cue, Dawson pulled Joey close and brought his mouth to hers. They fell deep into the kiss, and were totally oblivious to the display of celestial events going on right above them. Naturally, one thing led to another, and soon Dawson and Joey were making love. It wasn't just sex to them, it was the purest form of portraying a love for someone. Afterward, they just lay in each others arms, afraid to ever let go of the moment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

They were awakened by the bright sun peeking over the horizon, and when they saw each other they were both hopelessly in love. They got up and walked hand in hand towards Joey's house. They didn't make it though. On the way there, they ran into Pacey.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't Capeside's most perfect couple." "I'm gonna murder you Pacey Witter!"

"Calm down, no one said anything, I just read between the lines. And, judging by the wrinkled clothes, somewhat unbutton shirts, and uncombed hair with pieces of grass in it, I would gather that you two spent the night together and are just returning."

"Congratulations Sherlock. Now if you will excuse us, Dawson and my life together is what you would call, personal." Joey said. She pushed her way past him, and Dawson followed, but not without giving Pacey a look that could freeze the earth. Pacey just laughed and kept on going.

"So, are we ever gonna say anything about last night, or are we just gonna let this go? " Joey asked him.

"Jo, we are never gonna let this go. This was the beginning of our life together, and will live on eternally. Plus, we swore that it wouldn't be just a one night thing. And, we were both virgins so we don't have to worry about STD's or anything, and we used a condom so we are protected against pregnancy. Let’s just leave the moment the way it was, perfect." Dawson said, staring into Joey's eyes.

"Ok, I can live with that." However, inside she had a feeling that things wouldn't be ok, and something was destined to go wrong. It was they way she operated. She had grown up with so much tragedy that she just expected that anytime something good happened in her life, it wouldn't stay that way, and her life would soon crumble once again.
